    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Greetings all!! While browsing the web I came across the files for a 3d printed programming cable for the XG-100/XL-200, and it made me wonder if a PC <-> radio audio interface could be possible. Looking at the pinout of the UDC it seems doable but I am still sort of a noob at electronics. Would this be as simple as building a cable with some 3.5 jacks on the end to send/recieve audio? I havent thought about PTT yet aside from manually holding it for testing.

It would be easier to just chop an old ANALOG speaker mic. You would have audio i/o and PTT wires ready to break out to whatever connector(s) you want…

The XL line (150 and up I think), can use the XLESM, which is a USBC interface to the radio, not analog… (Edit: Can also use an older analog model.)

Hey thanks for the input, I ended up figuring this today. After bridging pins 3 and 5 with a some wire the other pads came alive and I was able to get audio to a computer through a chopped aux cord. I'm guessing an analog speaker mic would be one without all the fancy features like the XL-ESM has? It would definitely be less hassle to just chop a mic up...

It just doesn't work that way. Not only are pinouts different between accessories there is a sense pin that determines what cable/accessory
is attached.
3 parts of the UDC connector could be 3D printed and say an external mic circuit board could be used as a template to make a circuit board
as required for the pin assignments.
These newer OMAP radios have USB connectivity on the UDC, so yes, it is doable say making a programming cable, keyload cable, or data cable, depending on the sense resistance.

Ah the good old days were indeed good… The RIB for my P7100s had audio in and audio out on BNC and a PTT button!

I don’t use the RIB anymore, just the cables with inline converters, but I still have it and it works great for audio i/o.

Awesome! Ya, an old speaker mic… you don’t wanna chop an XLESM… they’re ~$500!

Just an update while waiting for my buddy to find a sacrificial mic: I was able to make a temporary homebrew cable with a readily available UDC connector stl from thingiverse, some 9.5mm long pogo pins (I'd go shorter next time to leave more room in the connector housing), some scrap wire, and an aux cord. Following the diagram from KD8TNV's website, I simply soldered aux wires to the pogo pins and super glued them into their correct holes (the holes were slightly too big for a friction fit). Bridging pin 3 (cable detect) to ground activated UDC output. As BMDaug said, its much easier to harvest an old connector, but it is possible to make one yourself!
