Because of something I read in one of the other threads, I thought it would be good to have a thread with the UDOT Regions described. This will make it available for doing a search like how we are setting up other threads on unknown TGIDs.

Looking at the RR Database, teh UDOT TG's have soem numbers. I am ASSUMING that the first set of numbers is a Mile Marker, and he second set is region and channel.
TG 19040 UDOT Parleys Canyon 234 1B
This sound right?

I'm not sure I understand the question.

Parley's Canyon is in District 2 and there are not 234 miles on I-80 in Utah. Now 234 could be the shed number the unit is out of but I have no idea on the 1B. The problem with that is that most of these sheds have their own TGs so there would be no reason to use their shed number in their radio xmissions.

In looking at the "234" of that data, it is my opinion that this is the shed number and I think...now remember, I just said that I...me only...I think that the shed number MAY be tied to the district number and the mile post where the shed is located. This number, 234, is in UDOT District 2 (first digit in the number) and Parley's shed is just off Exit 134 on I-80 (last two digits). I'm still thinking about the 1B part.

Course I could easily be wrong and those particular numbers coming together like that just happened as sheer coincidence. This is as bad as trying to unravel a conspiracy theory. Would this explain the other UDOT numbers you guys with the UniTrunkers are seeing?

Okay, then. the next question, IMHO, would be, does the Moderator know where the information that is in the database, came from?

That might work for some but I don't think so on the Tooele shed. It is by SR-36 but actually has a Coleman Street, Tooele address. It is listed as 223 (4D) while it is on Region 2 the rest doesn't add up. Additionally the Grantsville shed is by SR-138 on the west end of town but it is listed as 222 (4C).

So just guessing: First number region next numbers sequential number of shed in region number letter internal region sub-division?

For info also the Price And Richfield Districts are on VHF only and Price is District 44 and 9A units For Carbon and Emery Counties. Im not sure about the info for Richfield other than its VHF not alot of traffic on the input frequency i can hear. I'm not sure we are considered a region.

The shed number's have nothing to do with the mile posts they are at or any street numbers that they are associated with. This simply is the shed numbers for that particular shed. For example, shed 234 is actually numbered 2434. I don;t know why they drop the 4 from the shed numbers, but you are correct, the first "2" stands for what region the shed is from. as for the 434, I don't know why they drop the 4 and not the 2.

Here is a link for the UDOT website that clears this up a litle more:

I decided to reactivate this thread due to all the Snow road closures/activity that we have been having.

I just submitted the following to the Database:

TG 18944 DOT Region-1 Dispatch
TG 20192 DOT Region-1 Signs & Paint 143
TG 42688 DOT Region-3 Mechanics

Has anyone heard/gotten hits on TG 20416 Avalance control?

I had forgotten about this thread until I just now saw it again. What I really had forgotten was the link provided by LGLHOOK to maps showing the locations of the sheds. That is good to remember.

Hey I had also forgotten about this! Thanks for bringing it back up...

Looking at those docs, does anybody know what the color coding is?

The first few pages seem to be the boundaries of the specific Shed.

However on the Shed specific pages different streets have different colors.

Are they maybe priorities?

Strange colors for priorities, but I can't think of anything else.
Yep, gldavis is right because they are not for designating priorities. I was finally able to speak with a UDOT official today (Tues. 2-12-08) and lucked out in that he was the one that built the online maps we have been looking at. Those colors do not have any hidden meaning or significance, according to him. They are simply being used to highlight the state highways in that shed's area of responsibility. He simply used a different color for different highways and there was no set pattern used in deciding colors.
