I think I might have the wrong idea on what the function of the UID is... I THINK it is the individual radio that is being used at the time of the transmit ion RIGHT??
if so.... is there a database of known UID in specific areas ??? I have list that has been moved to the database but nothing else...
not really sure what to do next

There is no database entries for UIDs and in many areas they change often, sometimes each shift for departments that don't issue each member a radio.

That said, you can check the wiki for your area, some people have started threads there, however most of the lists do not/should not identify individuals or units (such as 1Adam12 or Officer Malloy), only the department or role.

Yes you do.

Depending upon what model scanner you're using, there's a handy program that translates the UID.

Also if you're federal monitoring there are general UID lists for that on the wiki to help try and identify what you picked up, which is useful since a lot of the voice traffic won't be in the clear.
