• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I can't imagine this hasn't been a topic, but I searched and didn't see anything, so here goes......has anyone attempted adding a headphone jack? Yes, I'm aware of the warranty issues and such (not my first rodeo). I imagine there isn't a lot of room inside the case, but even a pigtail to an external jack for a simple headphone? I'm aware of the Bluetooth options and all, just wondering about this. Thanks for any feedback.

Just curious here, as a user of Bluetooth headphones anytime I'm not home and seldomly having any issues, why would you want this? TBH I couldn't see myself using headhones, and seldomly have with scanner, since it limits movement and always has a habit of getting caught on something.

1) I don't mind being tethered. 2) Getting Bluetooth to work quickly, easily and flawlessly doesn't always happen. FWIW, I prefer Ethernet over wifi when available as well. Maybe I'm just wired differently. Pun intended. I do use BT with my G4 in my vehicle and I'm happy with it, FWIW.

Bluetooth in the G-series is wonky at best and doesn't come close to the reliability of your average cell phone. That said, I'd have to guess that the installation of a headphone jack, or even a pigtail, would destroy the IPV67 waterproof rating of these units.

Likely true, but since mine is essentially for enjoyment listening only, the waterproofing would take a second chair to the headphone convenience. I tried a pair of Bose earphones with my G4 last night after hours, when I want it quiet in the house. It worked, but I got the "end of call" announcement after each transmission, so that's not tolerable. :(

Can you use a USB micro-earphone adapter?

No, my understanding is that there is no audio available at the USB jack. My luck with BT headphones, speakers, etc. is spotty. My Bose Sport earbuds work, but I get the 'incoming call' announcement every transmission, or 'end of call' or both, I forget, but it's an automatic announcement, the audio is from a cell phone.

Those can be turned off in the PPS, I was having the issue when I first got the pager. Tab 8 General Settings, BT Headset Setting, Incoming Call Notification, uncheck the box.

... You know how long I've just dealt with the beep and didn't know about that setting?! Wow...

Well, well.....I was poking around in PPS today and saw that checkbox and wondered. Time to go back and give it a go. Thanks!
Interesting oddity......I unchecked the box and it did work (in only one ear) the BT Bose ear buds last night, but would connect, but not pass audio in my vehicle this morning. I've re-enabled BT announcements and will see if it works again in the vehicle on the way home this evening. BT weirdness.
