To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, I am new to all of this. Is there anyone out there in Muskegon County, Michigan that can help me with setup and programming of a new Unication G4 Pager?

Let's start at the beginning. Have you downloaded the Unication PPS programming software and looked it over yet? Looks like you need to monitor the Muskegon County Simulcast. Have you looked at the RR database and scoped that out yet? If it says "DE" for the mode, it's full time encryption and you won't be able to receive those talk Groups.

Hello K9KLC, and thank you for your quick response.
Yes, I have downloaded the Unication PPS software and kind of looked at it some, along with watching a ton of youtube videos.
Yes, I would like to monitor Muskegon county Simulcast (I.E. Muskegon County Fire Dispatch) along with being able to set a tone/alert for when one specific fire department in tone out.
I just received a new Unication G4 pager today. It is currently charging for the first time.
I have not yet connected the pager to my laptop or software yet out of fear of doing something wrong.
So I am looking for step by step easy to follow instructions or possibly even some one who is able to program for me and i will pay them for their time and efforts.

I can go into more detail later but I'll just say, any money put out maybe should go to becoming a premium member at RR here. The new Unication PPS allows for direct import from RR here,(to paid members) and it really makes things WAY easier to program in my opinion. Even if someone were to program it now for you, changes will occur and if you actually learn the programming, you'll be able to make those changes yourself instead of having to rely on anyone else to do them for you. There's lots of help here to be had and we'll likely be able to walk you thru it. Also if you were ever to take a trip or go to a different county or something, you can add that to your programming in another knob position or zone and the device will be even more useful.

One place I falter is the alert tones, I'm still working on some of that however, I know there are some change that need to be made for them to work better. I'm trying to find that post now.

This post seems relevant to the paging tones or at least, has helped some people. Down towards the bottom where he talks about swapping the A & B tone timing around.

However there is more info here also that seems to contradict some of those settings.

wanted to get those in here while I had them handy I know we're a ways away from needing those yet.

Your first step after charging is to open the PPS, connect pager, go to Tab E, click on READ DEVICE. After it reads the pager click on the new profile and choose EXPORT, save this with a file name easy to remember and DO NOT use it except in emergencies.

Now, click on the new profile you read and select EDIT. This is where you will start to do your programming.

I am more happy to do as you say and become a premium member. I will do anything available to make this easier. how do i become said premium member here on RR?
I also aggrege with you on learning to do it myself is better than have to rely on someone else. I just needed a starting out point and some basic directions.
I will look into the articles you have provide me and see where i end up. Thank you so much already for pointing me in the right direction.

OK. I will do this as soon as it is done charging. Thank you for providing me with the first step. I will let you know when i have completed this and hope you will be able to direct me on the next step.
Thank you again.

Best $15+ you'll ever spend, it will make programming the G4 quicker and easier.

Open PPS go to C-1 tab (no need to connect pager yet) and try to download the system you want from Radio Reference (Orange button top right)

Select the site(s) and TGs you want. My suggestion is you select all TGs and import them.

Follow what @RaleighGuy said above in post 6 above as a first step please so you have a reference point in case you need to revert to the status the pager arrived to you in. You need a profile to "edit" in.

Ok. understood.
I will do as instructed in post 6 for the first time i plug in into computer. I will name and save that first device read as the base line new file.
How do i create a second profile (not the first device read) so that i can begin to in port the Radio Reference information i have selected to the device?
or how to create multiple profiles so that i can assign different channels/talk groups to different knob positions?
I think i am starting to get somewhere with all this, so many, many thanks to all that have helped so far.

I have done as instructed in post 6 for the first time connection. The unit says data exported successfully and now i have a F-Tab that looks like this: see attached image:
so now i have things in both C-tab and F-tab. how do i get the information in the C-tab which came in from Radio Reference into the unit?

I will be happy to help, but please remember I'm not sitting at the computer 24/7, I will respond as I am available.

1. Go back to tab E select the profile from the pager, and click on EDIT (bottom left), no need to connect pager yet.
2. In the new screen that opens go to tab E2-1 and click on ADD and select Add from system resources, your entries on C1 should show up, add them to E2.

Let me know when you have this done.
