Good evening all.

I am currently using a Uniden 996p2 in my vehicle. For some reason, recently I haven’t been picking up any CSP radio traffic. Up until a few months ago, I was hearing the CSP as well as DEEP. I am located on the CT shoreline. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

CSP as well as DEEP.
I monitor both agencies. Nothing has changed.

I also use a 996P2.

I haven't noticed any problems so I would check your antenna connections and your programming.

Reload your programming file?

Good luck!

Though it may not be a factor for some posters here while monitoring CLMRN, you may be experiencing a well documented phenominon known as simulcast distortion. The only scanners designed to cope with its effects are the Uniden SDS100 & 200 but there are other workarounds mentioned in the wiki I linked you can try, they may or may not work for you depending on your location relative to two or more simulcasting towers

Check your radio settings and antenna. I use two 996P2 radios, along with the Unication G5 and other radios, no issues at all monitoring CLMRN. I float between Troop E, F, K, C, D no issues, and listen to DEEP Marine and East every day.

Check your squelch, I keep mine at 5 I believe. I use a Tram VHF 1/4 wave to monitor 33mhz, VHF, UHF, 7/800mhz with the 996P2.

I have a all band antenna craft base and a austin spectra multi band mobile antenna that works great
The Austin Spectra multi-band mobile antenna has been out-of-stock for quite a while… I have one I’ve been running for better than ten years without issue (back when the price was around $100) but thought I’d put a new one on my new 2021 vehicle, just as a preemptive strike against my current one dying from old age. But Scanner Master is out-of-stock and last time I checked they didn’t know when they would be getting more.

The normal squelch setting for the BCD996P2 is 2. If set at 5, you will be missing a lot of traffic with lower signal strength.

At anything under 5 there are a number of local VHF and LowBand channels that lock up constantly. I have been using them on a 5 where I live for 10+ years with the 996XT without any issues, as channels constantly locking up the radios really makes you miss traffic, while driving you nuts.

If not hearing the system when mobile is constant, I would say programming. Could be as simple as a locked out control channel. If you get traffic sometimes and then sometimes not, I would look toward interference including simulcast distortion. I believe there was a new tower going up toward the shoreline but not sure. The new Hartland tower is delayed due to supply chain issues.
