Uniden BCD 996XT or ????

I am debating on which scanner to get and was hoping that someone had some advice for me. I want to get a digital scanner but should I get the 996xt or I see that Radio Shack has a pro 197 Scanner. Which one is better and are there any other Good base scanners out there?

I suggest you do a search on the 996xt vs the 197. There are plenty of threads on this. If you are looking for the very best, stick to those two. Also, consider getting a handheld if this is your first scanner.

I personally prefer the 996xt.

Let's get some basics first - where are you (county/state is fine)? What are you trying to hear? Go up to the blue toolbar on the left under the site title - there you will find Database. Float your mouse over that then on the form that results when you click on it, use the pulldowns to get to those areas, then supply the URLs so we can all see precisely what you are looking at. Are you going to use this in a base (fixed) setting or in a car?

I just bought a Uniden BCD996XT & the above site along with reading through the RR Forums really helped.

Thank you all for the advice, and I have decided on going with the bcd996xt. It seems to have a lot more features than the radio shack one.

When I get my new scanner i will probably be asking for alot of help on programming it...
