The cost is:
DMR = $60
NXDN = $50
ProVoice = $50
As far as whether you need to upgrade (or want to), it depends if any of those modes are being used in your area - you didn't tell us where you are, so we have no way to answer that.
Looking at your past posts, I see references to the San Francisco area. ProVoice is an option for EDACS systems. The database only shows 4 EDACS systems in California. None of them are ProVoice.
The EDACS systems are end of life, so there won't be any new ProVoice systems. Most all of the systems that I've looked at, various states, and all that were in Texas, those systems are being replaced. In most cases, the users are changing to P25 systems. So, while you might find some use for DMR or NXDN (check the systems in your area of interest to see if anyone you are interested in are using either of those formats), I definitely would pass on the ProVoice upgrade.

Yes, both Phase 1 and Phase 2 P25 systems.
Same for the BCD536HP scanner, which is the desktop version of the BCD436HP model.
And ditto for the SDS100/200 scanners, Uniden's top of the line scanners which can handle simulcast sytems (if that's a problem where you are located).

Need to? No. It depends on your area and what systems are used and what you want to listen to. I'll tell you right now, Provoice is useless for the majority of users and an obsolete system type. You probably can skip it and you'll not miss anything. DMR is probably the most useful, NXDN is heavily subjective to your area, I have some but in my experience they're systems that aren't used often at all and have few users.
You get P25 phase 1 and 2 right out of the box as others said. Ask people in your state forum what would be worth it and what isn't worth it

@jrib65 I got NXDN activated on my BCD436HP. I shouldn't have. Because, I have only seen that on the railroads, and one county near me. EDACS Provoice is EOL as others have mentioned. So I never activated that. For DMR, I only see it in use by the office operations of the airlines. That too, I never activated.

I upgraded my 436HP with NXDN. But wish I hadn't. The 436HP comes with P25 'right out of the box'.
In other areas Chris that you are not in LAW FIRE EMS all use NXDN and DMR. Also the OP may be interested in hearing more than you are.
