I am considering purchasing a bearcat bc235xlt in the next few days. My question is, would buying this scanner as old as it is be worth the investment? I understand that it is an older model scanner. The price is $65 and in mint condition. I am also interested in a brand new gre psr 300.Which would be the better purchase for a beginner?

Keep in mind that the recommendation is good only if your area still uses analog trunking (many do). If your area has moved to a digital platform, buying an analog scanner will still work, but to a much lesser degree. Anything that is digital, in this case, would be unmonitorable.

It would be most helpful if we knew where you are (county/state will do). Go up to the User CP (upper left blue toolbar under the thread title) and go down the page about 2/3 of the way.

You might also say what it is you are trying to hear. With these 2 pieces of information, a more informed answer can be obtained

I would ask such a question in the California forum. In there, folks local to you can make the best recommendations for your area.

thanks for the help guys/gals. I am just getting back into the swing of things again. I must sat that I have been overwhelmed with all the infornation here that I don't know where to start. I can say that I am slowly understanding everything here. I never knew that this was such a big hobby. I thought I was the only one that listened to scanners (lol). Boy was I wrong!

Unfortuinately it is to late. I purchased the bc235xlt off of ebay for what I thought was a deal I could not pass up. I hope I don't regret making the purchase before getting all the information. Oh well, I gotta start somewhere.
