Guy's I have owned scanners since I was 9 years old. I remember my first being a kit you built your self to the 4 channel crystal set. I'm 42 years old now. Another words I have been around the scanner game for all these years. I am also a ham radio operator and own several ham units. I bought a BCD996T and I feel like a total idiot !! It is not so much I am used to the bank/channel configurations as I do understand the memory used in these units but I can't get the radio to operate for me correctly. I have inputed the EL PASO Analog system here it's a motorola II system and I have everything inputed correct except that I cannot get the scanner to go to it and scan. It's not locked out.... every now and then it shows up and I hear stuff and it keeps on going to other sites in the radio. I press .NO to try to turn off the national scanning on 22 thats on by default and nothing. I hit scan, wait for it to scan, then press .No and input my 2 digit quick key of 14 where I have it programmed and it wont go there??????? I am so frustrated and I wanted to do a reset and wipe out the rest of this stuff on ere but can't figure that out also. I think I understand the manual but cannot get the simplest thing to work for me. This is definantely a awesome scanner but it seems it has me where it wants me. I'm not getting my $500.00 out of it and it's taking me for a ride. HA HA That being said do you guys have any suggestions... maybe step by step guide for an IDIOT or a reset technique?? I appreciate all your help and suggestions.

PATIENCE...

did you program it by hand or use software? I would recommend using something like the Butel ARC996T.

I [rogrammed that by hand however I have the software that I d/l from uniden but it locks up when using. I think it may be due to Windows Vista. I need to try it on my XP machine.

Get a copy of ARC996 from BuTel it's much easier to understand than UASD from Uniden, also if you get a premium membership from this site you can use the software to download directly from the database. http://www.butel.nl/

if your using vista make sure you make the Baud rate SLOW!
or it will lock up.
also I would use Butel software.
if you can't get the software to work you will have to get a computer with XP on it to make it work.

Ok I will upgrade to premium on here. Also yes I was using 115,200 and then I tried 57,600 on Vista. Locked both times. I'll keep lowering it and try it. If not I can go to my other PC XP and use it. I really wanted to use my laptop on it but oh well. Maybe vista may work slower. What were you saying about d/l from the databse directly when you join here? Also will the ARC software work without buying it?

With a premium membership you can use the BuTel software to connect with the RR Database and get the data directly into software. You can try out the software before buying it , it has some limitations like the number of systems you can load at one time, plus the trial has a time limit.

Mike quick question... I deleted all the preprogrammed systems. I programmed in with the ARC Software and the RR site here the Motorola PS in El Paso and now when I go to scan I get:

AIR 128.6750Mhz It sits there and the squelch opens and closes every 2 seconds.
I hit scan again and I get:

Custom 8 420.0375Mhz

If I hit scan a third time I go to the one I programmed however it keeps going back to Air and hanging. It's like it is scanning these 2 fields however I cannot figure out how to turn this off. Any ideas?

For this part of it, you need to set Close Call to DND or Off (by tapping the Squelch control) or turn off channel priority.

Amazing how that works. It was the CC. I guess the DND(do not disturb) and off are basically the same right? I'm feeling better about my purchase. This thing is quite tricky.

Well, Off is off (no Close Call operation at all). DND (Do Not Disturb) mode keeps Close Call working except when it is receiving a voice transmission.

I'm reading this post and others with great interest, i have had my 996T for a couple of months now,,,i can get the systems on and running ok by using the RR download along with Butel ARC996, my dilema is that i'm not sure when to assign key numbers so that i can shut the OPP of when i'm listening to conventional air freq's? I have Kingston air and CFB Trenton air along with Rochester and NYSP freq's. at what point during my download do i apply a number to the OPP site (eastern Ontario) so that i can shut it off? i have tried going to the overview tab and dragging all the OPP sites and groups etc to key number "one", but i didn't recieve any chatter? I guess i'm looking for the way to get the OPP onto my system during or after the download that will allow me to hear them until i shut them off? HELP?

Already responded in the thread which you started on this topic above.
