I have been listen to a local government frequency, 158.8800 with a PL of 114.8. I know it's not a Bergen County town because I have a list of those frequencies. Any help would be appreciated!

ULS shows lots of licenses for that frequency in northern NJ. In fact, most of the licensees for that frequency (in NJ) are in the northeast corner of the state.

think I know what you're hearing

Although we've had our differences Jaymatt, I'm willing to put all issues aside and help answer your question because I believe I know what you're hearing. I have confirmed 158.880 as the INPUT frequency for the IRT Subway Operators in NYC. Those trains run into the Bronx, so you can most likely hear them on input from Bergen County. If they sound like train operators, that's definitely what you're hearing!

N2ZGE,

The problem with your suggestion is that tone 127.3 is used by Division A. Jay is hearing activity on 114.8.

Great my Radio Shack can reach Brookhaven when it doesn't pick up parts of Bergen County!! I used my Kenwood ham radio to search for the PL's if you're curious!!
