Upgrade from 796d to 996

Can someone tell me if Uniden has fixed these problems in there newer 996 scanner, I have a 796d and was wondering about a couple of things?...problem #1 -- a digital burst of noise before before the p25 decoder cuts in. -- I get a burst of digital noise on a lot of digital traffic even though i have excellent signal and problem #2----- the audio on a digital signal is very bassy, sometimes its very hard to understand! I would like to upgrade to the 996 if these problems are fixed!!

With the 996 you can set a talkgroup or conventional channel to digital only which eliminates the digital noise burst at the start of the transmission.

problem #2----- the audio on a digital signal is very bassy, sometimes its very hard to understand! I would like to upgrade to the 996 if these problems are fixed!!

I've got an older 785D and don't find any problems with the audio quality in P25 mode. I wouldn't really consider it a problem but a matter of personal taste.

Perhaps you can find someone close to you that can demonstrate the audio to see if it suits your own ear.

IMHO digital audio with 996T is flawlesss monitoring the Ohio MARCS system. But that depends on the equipment the system is using. There is bad digital audio and good digital audio. All systems are not equal. For example the Air Force reserve base I monitor which is VHF P-25 at times sounds like it's in a tunnel which is no fault of the 996.
