It sound like the Upper Darby PD is using the new UHF freq. I live near the Twp. and I do not hear the cars on the vhf input to 151.025. Also, the data bursts are goen now. Does aanyone out there notice this too?

To clarify--the 151 output channel is still active. But since all transmissions are now coming up with MDC data on the T band, that would be an indication that the input VHF freq is essentially no longer being utilized.

To the OP: sorry I mised the point about your observation wrt the input freq

UDPD is still transmitting 5x5 on the VHF channel.

Forgive my stupidity, but what do you mean by 5x5? I've heard that term before, but it just doesn't seem to click for me...

RST scale

The terminology is based on the CW RST scale which reports readability, strength, and tone. For voice it becomes RS or readability and strength. The best possible readability is 5 of 5 and the best possible signal strength is 9 of 9. 5x9 remains the best signal report but 5x5 (readability 5 of 5 and strength 5 of 9) is still pretty good.

R = READABILITY
1 -- Unreadable
2 -- Barely readable, occasional words distinguishable
3 -- Readable with considerable difficulty
4 -- Readable with practically no difficulty
5 -- Perfectly readable

S = SIGNAL STRENGTH
1 -- Faint signals, barely perceptible
2 -- Very weak signals
3 -- Weak signals
4 -- Fair signals
5 -- Fairly good signals
6 -- Good signals
7 -- Moderately strong signals
8 -- Strong signals
9 -- Extremely strong signals

Thanks for that info about the origin of 5x5. But I have always heard it used in the context of a 5 scale--so that 5x5 implied loud & clear--which is what I meant.

As for UDFD, I have not actually heard anything on the UHF yet, but remember reading a post recently that stated they would be using Fire 10 (in the repeater mode of course).

Being in this vicinity, I monitor these freqs on an almost daily basis, and will provide updates if I hear anything new.

If that's the case, then that would make sense. I used to have Fire 10 programmed, but all I ever got was irritating white noise or other static. Sounds like it's inevitable that UDFD will migrate to UHF, though...

I doubt that they're going to use Fire 10, because it's an MDT frequency. They were testing on 506.6625, the County Police Operations channel last week.
