Does anyone know if the USB-1 cable that you can order from Uniden has the HXD chipset?

If the one sold today by Uniden does not, where could someone buy this cable?

I just converted to Windows 8 for better or worse. As best as I can tell all three of the USB-1 cables I have got the HXA chipset, which isn't playing nice with Windows 8.

Also, in anticipation of finding the correct cable, which is the better driver to use? On the Uniden Wiki, it has a link to download the1.5.0 driver installer, but on Prolific's site they have a 1.7.0 driver installer.

Thanks!

I just went through that with 2 computers, one new and one upgraded to Windows 8. On the upgrade, it had the 1.7 drivers and worked fine prior to upgrade.

After the upgrade and I had to uninstall the drivers and install the 1.5 version. Everything worked without trouble after that.

Do an uninstall of everything you have and install the 1.5. If you still have trouble, go to driver properties and click on update driver. Instead of searching, click browse my computer and then pick from a list.

PM me if you have more issues.

I tried some things GMAN offered with no luck. So I'm back to the original question - Does the USB-1 cable in Uniden's site have the HXD chipset which gets along with Windows 8?

Scannermaster states on the USB-1 cable that it definitely does not work with windows 8

Prolific recommends the OEM builders replace with the newer chip for windows 8 (that doesn't sound too promising for your cable)

I don't know if this helps you out any but I have homemade cable for my BCT15 and it uses a profilic HXA chipset I'm on W8 64 bit and it installed fine using 2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v1.7.0 with no issues.

Info on making the cable think most of my info came here

What scanner is this for?

It will be the 396T, 996T, 396XT and 996XT.

I noticed that Amazon has a Plugable USB to RS 232 DB9 serial adapter having the Prolific PL2303 HX revision D chipset . I suppose I could use this in conjunction with the original cabling that came with the scanners and keep my fingers crossed.

The more I think about it, this might be helpful as I have a couple of older scanners (780 and 796) that need the DB9 connection for programming.

I appreciate the feedback.

If I remember correctly (very rarely I do these days) For my BCT15 I bought a usb cable on ebay that had the correct end for the scanner cut off other end found a wiring diagram believe it was posted on here somewhere and wired in a db9 connector (free from work) Bought a USB to DB9 Serial Adapter that I found uses the PL2303HXD chipset may of been a Bytecc brand and hooked it all up. Got maybe 17 dollars in it.
