• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

does anyone know if a 7550 can be on a Connect Plus network and also be setup for Brandmeister? The primary conflict I see is the radio id

that's the problem with school bus radios. MSI designed them for "single system" use. The RID is unique to each radio. Stupid design but that's the way they implemented it. The problem with Lidmeister and other hammy school bus radio networks is they validate subscribers by the CCS7 RID. So, the viable option is to see if the Connect Plus system owner(s) will allow you to use the CCS7 ID on their network. It's a crap shoot but they may or may not be able to provision it. I ASSume the CP network is a commercial SMR one and not a private system for company use (e.g., your work radio system?)

You can also request a Connect Plus compatible ID from the DMR coordinating body, or at least you could, I got an ID that was 5 digits so it would work in our system.

So I actually did the reverse (since I'm the owner & admin of my C+ network): I used the 7 digit DMR ID from radioid.net as the RID for my C+ network. For this one radio, it works great (one radio can access C+ and Brandmeister). However, since I can't get multiple RID's from radioid.net (they're running out and therefore restricting 1 per callsign), how do I achieve this for a larger fleet of radios?

Plenty of locals in the same boat did that. They told the coordinating body what their 5 digit ID # was, & it’s used on the ham repeaters.

Can you help me explain? I'm still new to how DMR & Brandmeister work. My understanding was that access to the BM network required a radio ID that was registered with the BM network (and associated with a call sign). If instead I have a unique RID for my C+ network and call up the admin of my local DMR BM repeater, and ask him/her to associate my unique RID to my... call sign? then that allows me access to the BM talk groups on that repeater? I know my understanding is imperfect, please help me understand? Thank you :)

I don’t know about Brandmeister, but I know when D-Marc was handing out ID#’s, & someone already had a 5 digit ID for a DMR commercial repeater, he’d inform D-Marc, & they’d issue that 5 digit number for use on the ham repeaters.

Brandmeister will not pass traffic on their network if the radio is using a Capacity Plus compatible ID. Other DMR networks may vary and I'm pretty sure there are others out there that do still allow Capacity Plus compatible IDs since you can still get them from radioid.net.

Your traffic will pass in local repeat on any talkgroup on just the repeater you happen to be on, however it will not go wide-area, even through a wide-area talkgroup on that local repeater.

Unfortunately, with a Motorola DMR subscriber, you are locked into one radio ID at a time, so your options are to either reprogram every time you want to use a different system (commercial Capacity Plus vs. amateur) or you can carry two radios. Not real convenient, I know.
