• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I believe this radio is GMRS, was able to get receive frequency and can hear the radio on my APX, however I’d I transmit with the APX on the same rx frequency I cannot hear any audio from the GMRS radio. Am I doing something wrong ?

also I wasn’t sure if this belongs here or in the GMRS area but since I want to use my radio at work which I know works and I am allowed to id like help using my apx with this radio.

Looks like CTCSS is enabled on the GMRS radio, you’ll need to add a TX PL to the APX.

Probably a power issue. Your 8000 transmits and receives at a higher power than the GMRS radio. Although I could be wrong if programmed correctly.

Okay so change the pl to 0-1 and that should allow the apx to “open” the midland radio ?

ok I’ll try it out at lunch time today.
I don’t see an issue using my own radio except I risk damaging it. But It would just sit in my office because I would rather carry the midland than the apx

The APX will need to have the 25khz option added for the slightly wider bandwidth that GMRS needs vs the narrow FM that business and public safety use. A NFM signal trying to be heard on a regular FM radio will sound like a whisper and may not open the squelch or modulate the PL strong enough to be decoded. As stated before, the PL needs to be the same or turned off on both radios.

The APX will decode PL tones down to 100hz of deviation. The narrowband standard is around 300hz Make them both carrier squelch and try again.

There is no such thing as a "25khz option". All legitimate APX sold in the U.S. that are capable of VHF/UHF come with Q507 - 12.5 kHz FCC Mandate in the flash, which will not be removed by any legitimate means. It's moot, as the APX and CPS know which specific frequencies are exempt from the narrowband mandate, and can be programmed with 5 kHz transmit deviation. These include the ham frequencies as well as the GMRS frequencies.

Nothing special needs to be added or done to an APX to allow for wideband deviation on the GMRS channels.
