• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I would like to use a Telemetry Cable PMKN4040A on an XPR7550 radio, and then run a wire (and ground) to a contact switch, so that, when programmed correctly, I can use a programmed button on another radio to signal the XPR7550 to send a telemetry signal to open the door. I don’t want to use it to close the door. I’ve seen some examples online, but they’re all related to an example where a water tank gets filled. Has someone done this before that can walk me through the correct configuration in CPS, and also tell me what protective measures I should install in the circuit to prevent damage to the radio?

Do you need to use a portable radio, or can you use a mobile?

I would prefer to use a mobile, but for right now, I think I’ll stick with a portable, mainly because I have a dozen of them laying around that can be put to use. I don’t have any spare mobiles at the moment. I’ll get one fairly soon if I can make this work. If there’s no way to do what I’m asking, I won’t bother getting another mobile. Hope that makes sense.

I used a XPR5550 mobile to run a remote gate. In addition to opening the gate with a relay, I needed to use the inputs for status also (doorbell, gate open/closed). Because of this I used the telemetry I/O's for this project. The output to run the relay was quite wimpy and I had to dance a little with the interface to get it to work. Once I got it running it's been in service for a few years now with no problems.

If all you want to do is open a door I think it would be simpler to use Call Alert and run the door relay off the horn alert output. However horn alert is only available for the mobile.

I haven’t thought about using Call Alert with horn alert output! That’s a good idea if I can scrounge up an old mobile! Thank you.
