Any chance someone will stream the 700MHz trunked system? Inquiring minds want to hear :D

Yeah for the most part this system is Yawners... All I have heard is the bus/car transport operations, venue operations, etc. No Security....

All of the security is handled either on the Telus Mike system for contracted security personnel or the ISU on E-Comm and P25 conventional..

The Vancouver Fire feed sounds pretty good - little (well, WAY) too much volume and it gets the EDACS beeps afterwards but good listening with the task forces.

Yeah we are using poor man's ESK system for the ECOMM Surrey and ECOMM Vancouver scanner feeds. Basically a couple of Motorola Maxtrac800's for monitoring the CC and Uniden 246T's for voice. My biggest complaint is the BEEP's and provoice noise at the EOT that leak through...

Yes I guess Harris (Olympic sponsors) are bidding for the Alberta system. With the financial hard times maybe the province will go for a deal including some used stuff from B.C. Never did find out what happened to the 500 Mhz stuff used in 1988 at the Olympics in Calgary. Lets hope B.C. ECOMM doesn't decide to upgrade to 700 Mhz. If so the research in Saskatchewan and B.C. will come in handy in Alberta.

Has anyone heard Air Force two? Did it land at Vancouver or Bellingham? Might have been some good RCMP/Secret Service talk when CTV managed to get through security to talk to U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

It all got retuned to 400 MHz, and it's still in use all over the province. I know of dozens of ex-'88 Olympic MSR2000 repeaters that are still in service today.

Does anyone have the WACN for the 700 MHz TRS?

On a side note, the Motorola trunking hardware from the Olympic games in Sydney, Australia in 2000, eventually became the NSWGRN TRS. This system will be upgraded to ASTRO 7.5 either late this year or in 2011. Its very possible the 700 MHz TRS for the Olympics in Vancouver, could in fact be picked up by the local authorities in B.C. for future use.

well AF 2 probably landed at Bellingham
But as far as comms are concerned .. can we say...Encryption ..Encryption..Encryption :(
The new era of Federal Police Communications practise is here...and its called keep the good, the bad and ugly out of the listening loop. either the RCMP or the US Gov.

Yes I know I have to agree with you about the encryption trend. The air comms should be in the clear. I forget whether they identify as Air Force 2 with the V.P. on board or the SAM tail number. Must have been quite the show at the border if he did land in Bellingham. Maybe our Washinton members can fill us in.

Many are saying that that a feed of the 700mHz Trunk system would be pointless since its not security and just trans, ops, and odd things........

I disagree :)

As a long time Olympic fan, and scanning fan one of my best times scanning ever was during the SL2002 Games. It may not be everyone cup of tea but as noted there are many times that things come up that are interesting/.

One time a bus broke down en route to the speed skating facility and some of the following comms were quite interesting (at least to me)

So if anyone could have a temporary feed im sure that some would listen.

I also agree I was in Calgary for the 1988 Olympics and the monitoring was excellent. Even to hear that the opening ceremonies almost didn't start on time would have been interesting to listen to. The Canadian Governor General who was to open the games didn't arrive until 37 second before they went to air. Those NBC frequencies posted also should be good to listen to. NBC says the medal presentation to the US womans gold medal winner and the Candian silver medal winner had more ratings than the Superbowl with a peak while the last female skier the US winner did her run.

I think you misread something in there... This year's Superbowl was the highest watched TV show ever.

I think rdale has his facts mixed up.

The opening ceremonies actually did have the highest ratings in "Canadian History", but the Sloberbowl probably had the highest ratings in US history.

So Harry .. you were right.

Kevin thanks for clearing this up. R Dale was taking a US perspective of that football game. I was thinking much more globally. There were lots more people from Japan, China, Germany, Russia, Canada and U.S.A. all watching the Olympics rather than football south of the border.

US Secret Service compliments Canadian RCMP VIP protection. Two undercover female members of the RCMP VIP protection unit apprehended a 48 year old B.C. man who was infatuated with US Vice President Joe Biden. This happened at the Friday opening ceremonies after the man slipped through 2 checkpoints with a home made All Access pass. The aman was 12 steps from Biden when the RCMP moved in and he ran and was caught. An RCMP spokesman says the USSS said "Job well done. Remind me not to mess with you."
