I turned on the scanner to listen after VCU's loss last night. Most of the traffic was on Richmond PD 5, Richmond "Citywide 2", RPD Special Operations Tac 1, and STARS mutual aid TG 6125 "MComm 1-A". But I also picked up traffic on the national interoperability channel 866.0125, and I think it was just repeating from the STARS mutual aid channel.

Why would they need to use the 866.0125 frequency, since the STARS Talkgroup 6125 was working just fine? Is it so the Richmond police could hear what the State Troopers were saying on Broad Street if Richmond PD didn't have STARS radios?

Either way it was interesting to hear traffic on one of those obscure channels you think you'd never pick up.

Good game but a tough loss.

Were there any significant incidences?

maybe the state police were worried about wide area coverage with their portables. They don't have local systems programmed in them, and they have to be pretty close to their car to go out over stars, so maybe the 800mhz interop freq was patched to stars to give the troopers that ability to follow the mob with out having to reposition cruisers.

I thought it was interesting that I could pick up TG 6125 on the Mt Weather STARS site but I guess 6125 is broadcast statewide. I went to the Richmond online freqs but it seemed to be business as usual. VCU actually has a pretty big campus police department (over 80 sworn officers) plus I believe I heard that Virginia Capital Police also had people on campus so it seems like the authorities had this response well planned out in advance and did not require the entire RPD

Tracker, thanks for the suggestion--that makes sense to me.

Brownlab, one of the Richmond area troopers must have been up your way. So his radio could "affiliate" with the local towers up there which allowed you to hear it. Same way that I can sometimes here Wytheville, Fairfax, and Tidewater talkgroups when their Troopers are visiting Richmond.
