will the vehicle chargers that work on the Pro 96 work with the PSR-500

If I recall, the tip size for the 96 is smaller than the one on the 500.
Using the RS tip sizes. The 96 takes a 'B' and the 500 a 'C'. Beyond that, they look the same. I don't recall the INPUT voltage for the 96 though. Both are GRE, both have the same yellow battery case, but the internal charging circuits may be different.
Simplest thing to do is to download the 96 manual from RS and see what the charging requirements are as well as the tip size (then compare them to the 500 specs).
