If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

The cps for vertex CE156 is giving me 2 errors and is missing the 9600 baud rate in the configure section of the cps. It will not read the evx261 radio. Any ideas? All drivers are installed correctly and correct com port. The errors are: baud rate not recommended and may damage the data or break it. It only lists 3 baud rates: 115200, 230400 and 460800.

Cps CE156: version 5.03

TIA.

Ignore the baud rate warning. It will read/write at the 115200 level - make sure you do have the proper driver & have selected the correct USB com port in the 'preferences' drop down tab. You should see that com port & driver listed in your PC's hardware device manager. It should appear/disappear in device manager if you plug it in & unplug it.

Have you used the same cable/computer combo to read other Vertex devices? It's pretty basic. There are issues trying to use the generic cables to do firmware updates, but for simple read/write functions you can certainly use the cheap USB cables.

It freezes the cps. It wont read the radio either even if i ignore the warning. Should i change the baud rate in device manager as well?

What Windows version are you running? I've run the CE156 Vertex Software on a Win 7 64 bit machine without the need to emulate Windows XP Service Pack 3. I have had other laptops running other versions of Vertex software without any issues.

You should not need to mess with the baud rate settings in Device Manager. mine is set as 9600, 8, none & 1. If the program continually crashes, I'd try removing it and re-installing it. Did you get the software from a legit source? Run it as Administrator and see if that helps.

Im using windows 10 64bit. And ive reinstalled the cps twice already. Same problem. I got the cps from a website that sells the cps on disc (cd). Installed fine.

If you are using aftermarket usb cable the issue is the driver.
There are many versions of prolific chip and many versions of the driver. That is what causing most problems.
The same cable may work on one PC and will not work on the other.
The cable will show all good in the Device Manager but it will not work.
Last week I was trying several XP drivers on XP laptop and none would work.
Out of desperation I tried Win7 driver on XP and it worked!
There are only two types of Vertex cables that always work - RS-232 original and aftermarket,
and FIF-10/FIF-12 with a proper pigtail attached. You need CT-106 pigtail.
As it had been already said ignore baud rate warning, use 115200.
P.S. Every time you try a different PL2303 driver you need to remove previous driver from OS.

I returned the radio. Thanks though
