• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

If you ask nicely they might give it to you. Are system keys public?. If I am a tax payer I have the right to use something I am paying for. If we are going to give Motorola billions of dollars for public safety radios, then I want the system key to program up my Motorola for NAS. Besides who needs system keys anyway?. Motorola leaked a DOS system key generator so too bad for them. Lax security is their own fault. When has an end user been prosecuted for possession of a system key. Never once, never will be either. NAS works great when programmed properly. I just get tired of the radio police saying get a scanner. You want to buy me a $800 SDS scanner?. Then I will get a scanner. Actually the SDS series of scanners are junk!. Lot's of quality control issues, they hear only about 50% of the radio transmissions. For that $800 price tag, they need to work and not have numerous quality control issues. Easier to pay $50 for a used XTS or XTL that works great. CPS is free so the cost of a NAS setup is cheap!!. I have no problem that someone screws up the programming and the radio gets inhibited, radio system stays secure. Remember it's the "BIG E", not the "LITTLE E" but the big bad "E". I guess the word encryption is banned here on RR. I think if folks call it the BIG "E" then it won't be encrypted and the people think they have the right to monitor encrypted radio comms. News flash!!, you have no right to!!!

No you don't.

You don't get to borrow Air Force 1 to take a trip to Hawaii.
You don't get to borrow a public works truck to help your brother in law move.
You don't get to borrow the chief's car.
You don't get to borrow a radio from the fire department.

Think about it….

When has an end user been prosecuted for possession of a system key.

You might want to do some research before asking that question.

You want to buy me a $800 SDS scanner?.

Why, why don't you just go borrow a radio from the PD? After all, you already paid for it.
