Nearly 25 years ago, I spotted a muck-coated HT in a scrap heap and picked it up for a song (the then equivalent
of $1.00)!
After a thorough clean-up, it turned out to be a beautiful working Yaesu FTC-2203 6-channel VHF rig. There was no battery pack but the external 12 V= supply jack saved the day.
Further examination revealed that only 3 channels had been 'diode array programmed' for 161.05, 161.10 and 161.15 MHz.
With my 2m ¼ λ ground plane antenna hooked up, it sprang to life and triggered the start of my railroad monitoring.
