There will not be a Vortex 3 anytime soon (i.e. several years at least.) I would imagine Storm Chasers will be back this fall.

Yeah, it will be back. I assume at it's usual time of year. We met some of the TIV crew and the TIV a couple of weeks ago at a museum when we went to see Tornado Alley, Sean's IMAX. Brandon told us there is a new season upcoming, Apparently Sean is now trying to capture a 3D shot after finally getting "the shot". Reed posted some videos of the new Dominator which will be used in conjunction with the old one.

Vortex project is done. It was only funded for 2 years, hence the 2 in the name. There will not be any more Vortex projects as far as i know.

Reed Timmer has been out chasing in the Dominator with the TVN crew and is currently building a Dominator 3. Sean Casey is also out chasing in the TIV2 with Brandon and Marcus. He is currently using a 3D camera. I came across the TIV while out chasing just south west of Dallas, Texas. Sean has plans of building a TIV3.

Storm Chasers tv show will be back for another season starting in October.

Well Matt didn't ;)

So... I take it to mean that you have firsthand knowledge that after VORTEX2 ended, wurman had evrything he needed, parked his trucks, and is no longer interested in storms?

I would assume that even after VORTEX ended, he still has operations in the spring and early summer...

No, I take it to mean that you didn't see what this thread is about. It's about V3, which doesn't exist.

I have first hand knowledge that after Vortex 2 ended, Dr Wurman and his team continued their storm research.

Rob, I think you need to go back and read what sgtmatt asked. The question said nothing about if there was a V3 or not.

I read it again and he still asked in the V3 thread ;)

Freq ranges depend on the authority given for the projects. He may also have a dedicated channel (or group) for his individual projects too, but that's not openly published.

It was in the V3 thread, and V3 has never existed, but Dr Wurman certainly isnt using telepathy for his group ;)

But this V3 thread was started a LONG time ago... and it has apparently evolved.

You never know - I think those dishes are used for something other than weather investigations ;)

Josh Wurman and the folks at CSWR will probably continue to hunt for storm data as long as the grants from NSF and NOAA hold up. There has been no official word as to plans for CSWR to chase in the 2012 season.

Sean Casey told me personally that he has no plans to give up storm chasing and will continue to provide us with breath-taking footage in large format film. I can confirm that he has aspirations of building TIV-3 finances permitting.

VORTEX 1 took place in 94 & 95 when Howie Bluestien set the standard and gave us our current thunderstorm model.

H2O picked up where VORTEX left off in 02 and set the stage for using mobile Doppler RADARS to gather information on tornadogenesis.

CSWR gathered RADAR and surface data every year from 03 to 10 when everyone else jumped on the bandwagon and started up VORTEX part deux.

VORTEX 2 took place in 11 & 12 ending with the most documented tornadogenesis in history at Goshen, Wyoming. It will take years to digest all the data that they collected.

In Feb of 2012 Original Media and Discovery Networks announced that the Discovery Channel program Stormchasers was cancelled. The network cited a decrease in ratings but insiders say it was too much liability to continue to encourage tornado chasing by the lay public.

The Weather Channel continues to pursue the tornado chase genre' with it's Tornado Hunt series and the cottage industry that sprang up as a result of TDC's StormChasers shows no signs of abating. Webcasting of TVN continues and there are several outlets for the amateur as well. ChaserTV.com SevereStudios.com are the most prolific webcasters of live storm chase video.

And Reed Timmer is now supplementing his income/biding his time by doing weather talks at elementary schools.
