With the unfortunate demise of the VicRadioZone, I was wondering if anyone had the foresight to keep "backups" of the data which they made available? There were several resources which I regularly referred to, and even though things may now be out of date, I'm kicking myself for not making more copies of useful stuff than I did.

In particular, someone regularly posted a link to a Google Sheets page which was incredibly helpful for certain commercial radio systems and mapping out their use.

I'd love to see VRZ come back, and would happily donate resources to make that happen, but realise that may not be likely.

It bugs me when a forum just disappears, with no notice and in particular, no seeking expressions of interest to take it over. Its happened a number of times now.

All that data and especially, the posts contributed by members lost. Yes there is a forum "Owner", but to me the members own it too.

You might try the same post on Vic Radio Scan (though I don't know how many have signed up to that one) and Aussie Scanners.

Hi

You can always try the "Internet Wayback" machine and look at a snapshot.

Was there something you were looking for in particular?

So the 'members own' the info, yet it was the owner who also sought much of the info himself and then compiled the information with the assitance of a rather limited group of others. It was the owner who spent the time and resources to place said data in to a format for others though, but the 'owner' owes everyone according to you because of some contributions? Interesting, we'll have to agree to disagree.

I find it somewhat akin to how according to yourself card sellers can take data they haven't sought out themselves other than 'online' but be 'reimbursed' for it given they spend the time and resoucrces putting it into a format for others.

I don't how many times I tired to get people to contribute and be more active on the forums instead of simply just taking. It wasn't forthcoming unforunately, it was grossly unfair, I've seen the data. It was the same very limited folks who contributed on some level, and trust me I mulled over that for quite some time. It was was not an easy decision.

Furthermore you may want to check another aspect here, I did actually offer the forums AND website to someone else and offered to work on some stuff in the backgorund, but despite the initial interest they never got back to me nor show a real interest. I keep no grduges though as I understand they had their on FB Gorup to run and admin and may have wanted to build their own platform in addition to limited time.

Then came another matter, well it was me who was made aware of the activities of a couple of members on there with aspects of the data provided form there and that was something I also needed to consider in the end. But that is another story.

Don't stress though, I see and hear Brett from the new Vic Radio Scan forums has retrieved some of the information and copy and pasted it for others. I'm sure there will be more to come. Afterall, as he suggested, Wayback Machine can provide some results.

People assuming, I'd hoped for better Damien, and I would've thought you'd know me a bit better than that given my previous heavy involvement with VicScan before it was closed by the owner and then my own original VicRadio Zone.
Each to their own.

Hey VicRadioZone

Just wanted to let you know that I have acknowledge your Website as the source of the information, at the end of the day I hear what you say, there are those out there who do this for the love of radios and scanning.

If you ever want to pass on the site I would be extremely interested, but I leave this with you.

My love of radios has been since the late 80's early 90's and the passion still grows

Chris - I certainly acknowledge and very much appreciate your extensive work over the years with the site and others.

What I wasn’t aware of – and I guess I missed this - was any offer made on VRZ to take ownership over. To me it just suddenly disappeared overnight, and for a while no-one seemed to know what happened, whether it was just a glitch, and emails I sent went unanswered.

In addition to data, my comment re loss was also related to all the posts by members over the years with reviews, advice, information and suggestions etc.

The sudden loss of such a great resource drove my comment, and you may have read more into it than intended.

I understand the difficulty getting people to contribute data. Of course not everyone has the ability to do so e.g. be in range of systems with analysis software, understand what they are using and seeing etc.

I apologize for the offense clearly caused.
