I have a couple of VX-6s, one for myself and the other is the wife's. She bumped something recently, and now the radio acts as if the squelch is down, even when it's all of the way up. We thought it may be interference, but my radio doesn't pick up on it. We've charged it all of the way up, switched out antennas and batteries, verified matching settings, and double checked the operating mode and squelch setting.
Nothing.

Any idea as to what this could be?

Have you checked the "RF Squelch" setting?

Also, I would wonder if the monitor switch "Moni" maybe got stuck "pressed in" when it was bumped.

[from the manual]
MONI Switch
Pressing this switch disables the
noise squelching action, allowing
you to hear very weak signals near
the background noise level temporarily.
Press the [F/W] key on the keypad
first, then press this switch to enable
to adjustment of the squelch
threshold level.

I can't recall if there's a master (CPU) reset on the VX6 or not; might be worth checking out.

Check your MODE selection. AM,FM,WFM

This can affect your squelch on the vx-6r.
