Hi all, I just did a reset on my vx 5 to get rid of excess channels and reprogram it, now it will only let me put frequencies in 144 430 and 50. What do I do to make it accept all of the bands again? Thanks for the help

VX-5R expanded frequency mod
After performing the reset on a VX5-R (pressing [VFO] + [MR] + [4] + [PWR], the radio only receives and transmits in the 6M, 2M and 79cm hambands, try this to restore full coverage:
Press [BAND] + [HM/RV] + [TX PO} and [PWR] simultaneously.

I had to do this to restore all 11 bands and enable out of band Transmit after performing the VX-5R expanded frequency mod.

Thanks for all your help. Now it appears to be in tx inhibit mode in all of the bands, any way to fix that? Thanks again.

Not certain of question

Do you mean it won't transmit on the ham frequencies? Or do you mean it won't illegally transmit outside the ham frequencies?

What I mean is that it won't transmit on the non ham frequencies because I will be getting my gmrs license soon and I'd like to know what's wrong with my radio.

Unless it's been physically modified, it won't TX out of band because, as was said, it's illegal to do so.

Nothing's wrong at all. Your vx-5 is not supposed to transmit on non-amateur frequencies. :)
