• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Our ham club had donated to us a Vertex VXR-5000 VHF repeater, and it had installed in it a Pacific Research RI-300 controller.
The ham club just north of us bought a new repeater, and donated this one to us. It was in working condition, but it is still on the same frequency as their new repeater, so we have to re-program it.

The nice thing is, they gave us a programming cable and the RI-300 software.
They said the RI-300 controller controls the RX and TX boards in the repeater, so by programming the controller, it would tell the transmitter and receiver what frequency to operate on.

I am having trouble reprogramming this set-up. I have installed the software on several different computers, all running XP. The cable is a serial programming cable with the modular type of plug on the end. I have tried to program it on desktop computers using the real com port.

I tested the cable by programming my VX-3200 mobile, and it works fine doing that, but using the same computer and cable, it will not work on this repeater.

I was told by the club that the ri-300 software is how they programmed the tx/rx frequencies.
Is there something Im doing wrong, or would I need to buy the real vertex software for the vxr-5000 to reprogram the frequencies?
Of course, I did double check the com port settings, and triple checked them.

Is there a way to remove the ri-300 and put the repeater back the way it came from vertex?

Are you using a "DOS" based program or a windows based? If it is DOS based then you need to use a Windoz98 or older OS. This is, from what I have been told, is because of a URAT speed and compatibility. I you are using a Windows based (no DOS or CMD window popping open) the pardon my intrusion....
