On a little handheld scanner you should be able to hear them about a 1/2 mile to maybe a mile on a good clear day.

If signals are weak turn your portable upside down, that's how they hold them. If you still can't hear wait until the fat Wal Creature gets out of the way.

LOL :)

As to the OP, I live about a mile from our WalMart, and every once and a while I can pick them up at my house, but that's not the norm. For me, it's usually around 1/2 mile or so. My mom uses their pharmacy, so while she's in there getting her meds, I'm out in the lot being nosey.

2 Miles

I can hear them about 2 miles sitting in my truck at work using a ft2900 and a 5/8 wave antenna.

For those of us who are normal-sized & have been to any sort of ham/SWL/scanner social event, it's really funny to have radio-geeks here mock fat people & Walmart.

True. I've been to ham fests where I had to deter to a different isle because of very...LARGE people.

...LARGE...and sometimes deodorant challenged...people.

I plan to write the sequel to Radio Daze's Walmart book. It will be titled, "Walmart Monitoring: When You Positively, Absolutely Have Nothing Else To Do."
