Come to think of it, the last time I was in a Home Depot looking for TV mast the rack where it was kept was empty. So yeah... on to DoItBest, Ace, TrueValue, or Lowes. I've read where people use chain link fence cross poles for TV mast, but that seems like very heavy stuff and overkill for a relatively lightweight antenna. I was thinking you'd use RG6 with pre-attached F connectors, but that advantage of putting on your own connectors is that you can run the coax through all the small holes / places first, then attach the connectors. 500 ft??? I sure hope not. You want to keep the run as short as possible... hopefully under 100 ft (even better under 50). Use a good grade of quad shield RG6 meant for satellite or CATV... you'll appreciate already having good coax whether with the antenna you have or something in the future.

The neighborhood associations in your area probably all got together to persuade the hardware stores to stop selling plain 'ol lightweight TV mast..... in hopes that no one would put up anymore antennas. Your cable is perfect for what you need to do. Have you gotten an adapter yet to match the F connector (to BNC, I think) on your scanner?

tv mast

Photoguy, try going into the Lowes and pick up a section of EMT (electrical conduit), if that isn't what you already mentioned. I use it all the time on antenna projects, it's stiff enough for most homebuilt antennas and tv antennas, and easy enough to cut with a hacksaw if you want to shorten it. I get 1 1/4" pipe for less than ten bucks, or maybe it's inch and a half, either one is strong enough to hold a tv antenna and 6 fat doves or pigeons. You might even find a "mast standoff" in the same store. The radio shacks are coming and going, but they did sell those brackets too. If you go onto the roof, be careful not to stand too close to the edge!
