• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

R8000, you are so right LOL. Guess we should specify, put a light on a WORKING cb antenna lol.

I do like the neon idea though (dont know it that was a joke or not, but I'll look into it).

If you want to have some real fun get a 5 watt florescent bulb and put next to your antenna key up and pull it away a little bit. it stays lit lol. not a joke.

I'm thinking about getting a 100 watt linear (but that opens up to the Ham world), I wonder what would happen to the bulb with that kind of power.

I hate the fact that you cant put lights on antennas. I want them for marker lights because I plan on having 5+ foot of antenna above the cab. The neon is a cool idea, but that only works when you key up. Plus its neon, glass bulbs and fast moving objects (trees, general flying trash/debris) will do wonders to the thin glass.

All is good but you will probably have to live and learn. i have seen so many antennas bite the dust from putting them on the roof. for my money i would get a 102 in ss whip mount it on the bumper and be done with it. i bought one in 1970 for my car and still have it today. but experimenting is part of the fun.

Enjoy.

Most of the people in my little redneck town have whips. I personally dont like long whips, but thats because I dont really like the people who use them (around my area). I never understood why a whip are so good. The length plays a big role in performance, but the flex and the fact that it lays down fairly easily lead me to believe that whips are not that good. But I stray form the OP's topic, I apologize.

I remember an accessory called the firely or glowbug..something like that. It fit over the end of an antenna an had a lock screw. It was a coil with a bulb on it, not neon. They were pretty popular around the boom on whips. They had a cover over the bulb, base and part of the little tube that was simply one of those plastic or vinyl coaxial cable end covers you'll see on the end of a boxed roll of cable. They made some issue about them because many states had laws prohibiting flashing lights on non-emergency vehicles and some law enforcement agencies used that as a pretext. They do the same nowadays with people riding bikes with those clip on blinking LEDs

Anyone remember those panels that you put in your rear window that announced what channel you were on?

I remember the signs. And l still have 2 or 3 of the little red antenna topper lights around here. I also remember the lighted antennas that was sold in the 80's.

That link shows that someone has gone to the trouble of making an easy way of attaching a light to an antenna. No idea what the final price of the thing will be, but if it turns you on, why not?
