Washington Township elected officials just approved their police chief's recommendation to have 911 calls answered by Northwest Bergen Central Dispatch in Ridgewood. The Township will continue to handle their own radio dispatching though.

Also, it is being reported that the Township has made the decision to transition over to Bergen County's trunked radio system (self dispatch option). No word as to whether this will be for PD only, or include FD and EMS.

Sounds like they will be on FD12 and PD12.
Not sure about EMS.

Does anyone know if they are now simulcasting on the Bergen County system and on their VHF frequency? I monitor them on their VHF system and the mobiles are sounding a lot better within the past few days. i’m wondering if the mobiles are operating on 700 or 470 instead of VHF now?

I looked at my ProScan logs, but I only see one transmission on 7/13 on the UHF South Simulcast. Perhaps they were testing then? I don't see anything after that, but the again my PC was down for a week or two in July.

I just heard Washington Twp. PD on the 700Mhz Simulcast, TG1212. The interesting thing is that radio indicated they were using TDMA. Again, I wonder if this was just testing.

Washington Twsp has purchased APX 8x00 subscribers, and will primarily operate in TDMA mode on the 700 cell.

The UHF cells are only capable of FDMA, while the 700 cell is TDMA capable.

I figured as such. I just found it notable that they are the first that I've see thus far using TDMA on BC TRS. Has any other subscriber started using TDMA on the 700nhz Cell yet?

I haven't tracked the 700 cell in Unitrunker in quite some time, so I can't say for certain.

It was reported that when Oakland was back and forth between NJICS/Bergen County, they were on 700. Not sure.

Also, when Franklin Lakes was testing/moved someone mentioned they heard them on 700mhz.

Unfortunately I couldn’t verify either.

Any agency that bounces between NJICS and Bergen would likely be on the 700 cell, unless they happen to have multi-band APX with the Bergen UHF control channels programmed.

I should have some more info available this week, I just started tracking the 700 cell.

Yes, I have been noticed Franklin Lakes on the 700Mhz Cell primarily. Whereas, after posting yesterday, I noticed that Washington Twp. was showing up on 700Mhz Cell as TDMA, P25, and on the UHF South Cell. Is it possible that they are testing or that there are just a mixture of radios in their pool right now?

Could also be someone with a radio on the UHF South cell sitting on PD Dispatch 12, not necessarily a Washington Twsp radio. Only takes one to pull the TG over. Bergen's system has dynamic transcoding, so the talkgroups can operate in TDMA mode on 700 while operating in FDMA mode on UHF.

Dynamic Transcoding translates between FDMA and TDMA audio formats for sites in the same system or different systems. This enables radio users of different modes to communicate without downgrading everyone on the call to FDMA, thereby preserving the capacity benefits of TDMA on those sites with all TDMA capable radios.

Hi there, new to scanning and I have a SDS100. While scanning Westwood PD there does not seem to be any chatter. Is this normal or is is the latest SDS100 database out of date/need tweaking based on these recent changes?

unsure. I don’t usually monitor them. Have you tried the listed frequencies in the database? Also, they may just be a quiet town. Unsure. My town sometimes it’s not uncommon to go hours without hearing a single peep.

I am also starting to think it maybe just a quiet town. I will continue to monitor over the next week. Thanks for the quick reply!

could be. Time of day tends to be a factor in the more or less quieter towns. Evening at least up by me when towns start patrolling, and make their stops. Or get the medical calls. No problem!
