Weirdest thing...

I was listening to 4 District YRP... PS45 came on the air and sounded like he was out of breath. He asked the dispatcher to please get the communications supervisor on the air for a moment. They switched over to the POU channel (336) and he told the comms supervisor that he sees the generator, and to the right of it is a red light next to the tower. He said it's definitely on. I couldn't figure out what was going on until she said, "10-4 sarge, that tower is definitely out of service. I'll call Motorola". He said that he's now a qualified radio tech.

Seems odd that they'd ask an officer to check out a broken tower site...

It's possible that they got an alarm and that the Police respond to such alarms.

I've heard in Toronto an interior motion alarm at one of the South Zone sites (Main and Danforth) which TPS responded to.

My guess would be that an alarm without a distinction or something came in. He was probably told that if the red light is on, the site is FUBAR or has lost power or something.

FWIW, YRP's service contract states after-hour emergency service to be a tech call-back within 30 minutes, site attendance within an hour, and repair within 4.

You know everything, dude!

Something has indeed been strange with the York system tonight. Half of the dispatchers (both fire and PD) are saying that they can't hear their units, yet I can hear everybody perfectly. The dispatchers are complaining about crackling.

I was getting a lot of cracking on peel last night and the officers had to do a lot of repeating for dispatch, probably something to do with how freaking cold and windy it was last night.
