I live in Boulder. What are the frequencies for repeaters where folks are talking. I am almost ready to take the tech est and would like to learn where the "action" is (places where I can talk with other ham radio operators, AFTER I get my license). I am, at this time limited to 2 meter, so am interested in only that band for now.

Also not interested in listening to police, or fire dept dispatch, only regular folks talking with each other on their radios. Also, would like to learn more about participating in nets around here. Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance

Google "Boulder Amateur Radio Club" - they have several repeaters.

I don't know if they are "cool" or not as I don't listen to ham repeaters except when there is severe weather.

My best advise would be to check out the local clubs, and also check out the Colorado Repeater Associations repeaters. 145.46 is the machine in Boulder that is linked up to others in the state for "nets" where the hams all talk about different topics. When the nets are not going on, you will hear a lot of people talking back and forth, and it seems to be "regulars" or the same people at certain times.

I have had my licence for a few months now and participate in nets, but haven't really talked to anybody outside of those. One thing I have found is that other hams are very polite and always welcome new people! I am limited to a five watt handheld but I am still able to hit the Boulder repeaters from Longmont. PM me if you want some more info on the nets I participate in and I would be happy to send you the links to some great sites that the members around here provide.

Google may be your friend but it just regurgitates data. To answer your question, the 146.10/146.70 repeater is the longest operating Boulder repeater. It is supported by BARC which is, IMO, the most active and most educational amateur group in the state. Friendly people, dedicated to training kids in radio, featured on the cover of QST, they have a great club going.
Good luck with your studies for your license, if you need help just ask anyone on here with a call sign.
