What do you monitor? Where do you monitor from?

This forum died down a little from what it was a few months ago. We need to keep up with these Washington posters across the border (or Calif/Idaho/Nevada depending on what part of the state you are in).

What frequencies or talkgroups do you monitor, and where from?

From my car I listen to OSP-Portland and Clackamas county net 1 (I love that they still broadcast on the VHF) on my drive into work. Not in an attempt to evade either one of them, but a heads up on wrecks and possible detours I need to take are always nice, *especially* in bad weather conditions. I'll occasionally use the signal stalker in a rural area, but its more of a nuisance when I come into an urban area.

From home I occasionaly monitor Clackamas fire and the goat mountain ham repeater, neither frequently though, the scanner is usually off.

Live in Washington County, so I listen to WCCCA (South Cities and TVFR), BOEC (PPB and PFB) and I also listen to CRESA (VPD, CCSO, and Fire). I happen to work at a dispatch center so I actually listen to them so that I know what I'm going to be walking in on when I arrive at work! I usually have to listen to CRESA through the BOEC simulcast, since it is a much cleaner signal, living this far south.

Same for me too.

I listen to the work (local EMS provider) and Clackamas fire along with BOEC Fire/EMS on the way in from Gresham to let me know what I may be getting in for. Is it going to be busy or mellow. On the way home will listen to BOEC Fire/EMS for any obstacles slowing me down.

Don't really all that much at home. Occasionally if there is something like a structure fire or something going. Amateur radio is also on a lot at home.

I also am now able to listen to Yakima County in Washington again since Doc Berndt put his on-line radio back up. Fun to listen in to things happening in the old stomping grounds there.

At work, I listen to PPB, County Net, Multnomah County fire, TriMet, and ODOT. During Rose Festival, Marine 13 is on the list also. At home, I listen to County Net (and Gresham PD tacs) and Multnomah County fire. Occasionally will turn on TriMet if there is something interesting going on.

Don't usually listen in the car (too short of a commute when I drive most times) but when I do, it's usually the jurisdiction I'm driving through for a "heads up" of whats going on.

scootz... I was down at your office two weeks ago. I rarely drive that far west anymore and stumbled across PPB's traffic division on a talkgroup I hadn't seen used before working their lidar detail on 99E. 6 cars and bikes lined up along side the road, nailing speeders. I usually don't speed anyway, but man, I sure watched my speedometer on my return trip. Just wish I had noted the talkgroup number, I do remember it not being listed in my talkgroup guide. It was comical to listen to joy in their voice calling out a speeder, with an illegal lane change, in a construction zone. Makes me glad my foot isn't made of lead, that could get expensive.

Depends where I'm at...

As a sales guy, I am all over town all day long so have banks set up to allow me to easily switch around. As I live in Washington County, always have WCCCA on....esp listen to Firecom as I'm also a volunteer ff. When I'm downtown, usually have Cen Tac 1 and the PFB and EMS talkgroups going as well as ODOT Comet. I've got Clark County set up in case I go up north, and Clackamas in case I'm down south.

On my handheld, when I listen to BOEC from out Beaverton area, it can be hit and miss whether I can get consistent trunk freqs esp. on east side (i.e. Gresham, Mult Co Sheriffs, etc.)...don't know if that's a problem with my scanner or what. Some days it's clear and strong, others weak. All PFB talkgroups always come in great.

As a vol ff, it can be nice to listen on the way to the station...can hear what is going on at the incident, and usually hear of the recall at least a minute or two before the recall page comes across! Also, good you know to be "on the ready" if a task force box gets tapped (generally vols are dispatched on the 1st alarm assignment)

I live in the Bethany area, so mostly WCCCA (SO1, Bvrtn)
OSP Banks (Mac) on the 2m ham rig
also listen to the HAM VHF Calling freq (146.52) and whatever repeater I feel like hanging around on.

I am usually on 146.98 in the evenings if anyone hears anything interesting on another system, come up and let me know !!

SIDE NOTE: We should have a repeater where us scanner geeks can tell other scanner geeks about cool stuff going on... just an idea...
later,
Will

Someone needs to build a trunked ham radio system. Then scanner users could have their own talkgroup to talk about breaking incidents or new frequencies and not bug others who aren't interested in such conversations. LTR wouldn't be too overly expensive.

I listen to CRESA since I live in Clark County, Portland detective type talkgroups, Union Pacific trunked system, and some business frequencies. In the summer I listen heavily to forestry - ODF, DNR, USFS, and BLM. In the winter I listen to ODOT and Portland Maint. bureau.

By the way "private user" (MT) the patches from CRESA to Portland will disappear in a year or two. By then rebanding should be done and all Portland users will have the CRESA system and talkgroups programmed in their radios and the patches will no longer be needed.

I agree with you about the Ptld side, no FRA signed yet. Things are moving though with the other peeps. I hear that radio replacement is going on at WCCCA and subscriber reprogram will start cranking along in about two months. Not sure about the other side of the river ;-)

SW Portland checking in...

I live near the Multnomah/Washington county line, about SW 45th and Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy.

99% of the time I listen to Portland central dispatch, tac 1, tac 2, and Portland fire tap-out.

I sometimes listen to Washington County SO1, SO2, and fire dispatch.

On the desk at home I use a Motorola MTS top display for the 800mhz and a PRO 2026 to monitor work. In the Jeep is a BC780XLT. Most of the time I will take the MTS with me in the car, too. I also carry a IPN pager.

My county ride has a Motorola Spectra with the PDX system, and a MOTO Maxtrax in the 153mhz range.

Lebanon, Linn Co.

I live in Lebanon and listen to the Lebanon PD. I often lock them out and go with my #1, the Linn County Sheriffs who get juicier stuff and more wackos as they cover a larger rural area. The LCS also runs the jail, and that can be more interesting than it sounds. State Police, out of Albany and Eugene, but understandably predominantly traffic stops.
When driving I like to leave the "signal stalker" on and see what comes up.

Its nice to see a few of you new local guys checking in, thanks for your input. I'll add to my submission my camping/vacation setup. We hook up the travel trailer a number of times each summer and head out to central and eastern Oregon, and the BC780XLT is programmed accordingly. My on-the-highway setup consists of a CB/FRS bank and an OSP bank. I also have a bank dedicated to local police and sheriff frequencies, in alphabetical order by county. A bank reserved for forestry, odf, state parks, and so on. As often as we go to Deschutes county, I have a bank reserved for their system as well. Around rodeo season the Deschutes trunk system is hilarious to listen to, Deputies chasing around pickup trucks loaded to the hilt with pallets headed for remote camping sites. I tip my hat to them, if those bon fires get out of control, my quiet remote campsite would probably not be there long.

Over here on the coast Florence, I listen to the local PD the Lane Co. So and ODOT and OSP. The scanner gets real busy in the early spring and all summer with all different calls. Some of the best calls you here over here are ones outside city .

I live in Seattle, but visit Eugene every month or so. I've got my XTS5000's set up from Canada to California. On VHF I keep WSP and OSP in the first two zones. When I cross the border into Oregon, I flip over to zone 2 and listen to OSP/Marion/Linn/Benton.

For UHF, I've got Salem/EPD/SPD/LCSO/CGPD/Lebanon PD.

Week in LA

Geez. Ten days in my old neighborhood listening to LA Co. Sheriffs dealing with stuff we can only imagine. . . How's this? Call went out saying that the fellow standing outside a residence in a UCLA sweatshirt at 6:30 AM had killed his whole family. This was somebody's idea of a prank.
