While looking within the data bases here at RR, I see some systems have numerical entries for HEX. What is HEX?

Thanks for your help.

Hexadecimal...just a number, equal to base 16.

Ten numerical digits and 6 alphabetic digits [0123456789ABCDEF]. A is 10, F is 15. Multiply by 16 to get next place value.

mathematics and computer science, hexadecimal, base-16, or simply hex, is a numeral system with a radix, or base, of 16, usually written using the symbols 0–9 and A–F, or a–f. Its primary purpose is to represent the binary code in a format easier for humans to read, and acts as a form of shorthand, in which one hexadecimal digit stands in place of four binary bits.

Some scanners display certain trunking attributes in Hex format, also some computer programs read some attributes in Hex. It was pretty much a way to designate larger numbers with less characters, which was very important when memory was expensive in the early days of trunked radio.
