• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

What radio is this?

Hello, I am trying to find the model name or at least the manufacturer of this radio. It is used by Riverside County Sheriff.

It's a BCT8 scanner, with BearTracker(tm) Warning System with 800MHz TrunkTracker III.

Almost every patrol car I've seen has a scanner in it to monitor other agencies, etc.
Wow. This was obviously installed a longggg time ago. Very interesting.

Looks like a Harris M7100

Could be an Orion, too. I've interchanged control heads between them before.

Only way to tell for sure is either read the radio, or look at the model/serial tag on the radio body.

From the display, that has to be an M7100. That is vintage also, Riverside went to Motorola, early 90s

Orion M725 or M7100. Good radios, but the M7300 is a better platform, newer, and pretty easy to find at a good price. If you're interested in the M7100, the M7300 is what you should look for.

Most importantly, seek out one that has the features you need.

Also, if you need 700 MHz or Phase 2, stay away from the M7100 and do as Elroy says and go for the M7300.

The M7100 has worked out great for us as our site is 800 MHz only, but I would add to that.... avoid the M7100 if you need Link Layer Authentication. Since Harris is not going to add LLA to them, this means I have several agencies who will have to replace the bulk of their mobile fleets over the next three years. Mucho dinero.

On the other side of the coin, I'll be able to do away with RPM and consolidate all my codeplugs into RPM2, which will simplify my life to a certain extent.

I wish we could do that, but we have way too many 100P portables.

We have one... my personally-owned one. I love it for my own use, but the thought of a whole fleet of them? Not so much.

What we have a whole boatload of XL200P, and I'm OK with that.
