• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

My first CB was Sonar FS-23. A big unit which I used at home and in a 1964 VW bug. I had to put a 12 volt battery under the back seat since that year VW was still 6 volts.

Chrome metal cased Courier 23. Older tube type radio. Still have it and has aged very well. Most of the past 20 years it has been in storage though.

Midland 13-882C, a 23 channel mobile.

I also have a 40 channel Uniden handheld with the waether band.

No SSB radios though, but I would like to get one.

Mine was a Robyn WV-23A. Used to irritate my ex-father-in-law that my little stock Robyn and Antenna Specialists trunk lip mount antenna would consistently out-talk his "peaked-and-tweaked" RCA set with dual antennas on his "big truck."

Also had a Midland base radio at the same time, but can't recall the model.

Globe CB 100

Mine was a Globe CB100 3 channel crystal controlled. Tube type and it worked on 6 or 12 volts or 120VAC. I think the vibrator was replaced with a solid state type device to make it more modern. Probably bought the replacement device from Olsen Electronics in Ohio.

My first was a Johnson II for base or moble. Used it on base for a while, then put into car when I got one. Was one, if not the best CB I ever owned.

An Allied Radio single channel transmit with a tunable superregen receiver, I built from a mail order kit. I added a 5 channel crystal deck and a front panel switch I wasn't old enough to drive but I built quite an array of test equipment from kits. My mode of transport in the early 60's was my Cushman Super Eagle, l ordered a CB portable and when I was riding my Cushman I would stay in touch with my mother, not a bad life for a fourteen year old.

Mine was a hand-me-down Cobra 19 Ultra. The first rig I ever bought was a Radio Shack TRC-444. Once I really got into CB I had a bunch of rigs like the Uniden Washington and Gtant XL and the Cherokee CBS 1000. Sold most of it for big $$$ to finance my Ham station.

I also started with a Globe CB100 3 channel, then a realistic TRC-X23 (Courier 23) which I still have and use once in a while. have a collection of at least 20 tube- type CBs, even a Eico 762, the one on the Andy Griffith show. I worked at radio Shack 1968-69. Don

My first CB was the P/S BOBCAT 23D.. I fell inlove with woodgrain and brushed aluminium look on the front panel... still do !!!...I still cave a couple of their radios, but sadly I don't have Bobcat any more.

First was a Pierce Simpson tube Companion II that was retired from my dad's business after he got set up with business band. I think it was six channel, but also had a tunable receiver. I went to work for RS shortly afterwards and first bought 2 mini six channel TRC-11's that were on sale, followed by a TRC-30 Navaho base. One of those TRC-11's wound up in my first vehicle and the other I traded to a guy for a Pentax Spotmatic SLR that was worth easily 5x the then sales price of the CB. I swapped that camera for a Ruger 22 bicentenial marked pistol that I still have. Worked out to a good legacy deal worth more then everything combined. Still have the TRC-30 in a box somewhere. Made some lifelong friends that almost all became amateurs except one that I still keep in touch with.

It's really hard trying to remember anything over 50 yrs ago, but it was a Heathkit which I believe it had three (3) channels (crystals) which unplugged from the front panel giving you the option to change to different channels if you wanted too. A lot has changed from then to now, I think all the old records were lost in a fire some years ago including liscense records. I cannot find any record of my original KCF 2144.

Fair... I still haven't got the antenna I bought up. I think I'm just going to hire someone
To put it up. Even with that in mind, can't find anyone but... I will. When I do .. Let's see
If I can reach you ... Might need a little "help" which I have ... So hopefully In a week
Or 2... I have a friend coming to help mount the antenna. I got one on those 4 PC,
"Big stick" type.

I was hoping to go to that ham rest , I think you told me about it on the other forum
Again, that forum shut down so....

Anyway.... Keep me I the loop if you hear of another..
I got some info on the imperial rigs to get them in shape. I do wind up trying to buy
Some more... As I figured I might get lucky and get one in good working order.
No such luck but at least I have a stock of "parts". They all work, to a degrees. The
Dead crystal issue seems to be common.

Catch you later
G
