I've got a Uniden 396T and experience weaker signals at times with the standard antenna that came with It. Just wondering what's a better antenna that will give me better reception.

What frequency range are you wanting to hear? That determines what antenna you should get. I primarily listen to 800 MHz, so I got the Radio Shack 800 MHz antenna and it works great.

I primarily run the Watson WSMA-889 tele-gainer but recently changed to my old ICOM FA-156B. I recently installed a mobile antenna in the car and it is easier to change antennas with the BNC one already on..

I swear by the Comet SMA-503. Works well in the VHF / UHF / 800Mhz. My second choice is the Diamond SRH-519.

Get the Comet SMA-503 and you will NOT be disappointed!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for all your replies. I basically listen to most frequency ranges and with all the replies, I can now make an Informed decision. The 800mhz range comes In loud and clear, so do most that I listen to. It's only a handful (so far!!) that I need better reception.
Cheers....

If you are already getting 800 mhz fine with what you use now, getting the RS 800 mhz antenna isn't going to do you much good. it's great at 800, but IMHO attenuates at VHF, compared to the stock PRO-96 antenna. Consider an antenna designed for a dual band 2M/440 ham radio, like the Pryme suggested earlier. Just make sure you get a BNC, not an SMA.

Being in Ontario, what antenna do you suggest for the 396T ? I'm having a heck of a time getting anything in Halton Region when I'm smack in the middle of Oakville
