I just returned to Yuma after several weeks n the Rodeo Circuit. Turned on the Scanner and NO BORDER PATROL on the 163 MHz segment where they were when I left.

Anyone know where the Border Patrol in the Southwest Arizona area has moved to????

Thanks,

George

They are probably in DC guarding the congressmen from irate citizens mad about the immigration bill they want to cram down our throats---

Seriously, I will research the answer to your question. My son lives down there.

Thanks Thayne,

I'm out of Yuma more than I'm in Yuma since I do Scoreboard and Sound at Rodeos.

Just returned from the Flagstaff and Santa Fe Rodeos, and heading to the Prescott Rodeo tomorrow.,

I do enjoy keeping up on the local Border incidents, and was surprised to hear nothing on the 12 ~163 MHz frequencies I normally listen to.

Thanks again.

George,

I can't speak for Yuma operations, but the frequencies I monitor here in Green Valley seem to be functioning normally:

BP 162.312500
BP Lemmon2 168.975000 CT 100.0
BP Lemmon1 163.725000 CT 100.0
BP Pima Quijotoa 173.687500 CT 123.0

Thanks Northe,

These are the frequencies that I've been receiving the Border Patrol on for over a year. Now silence (tried several radios and antennas to ensure it was not a receiver problem).

George,

I wonder if it's possible that they've changed the CTCSS squelch tones -- can you disable them and just listen in FM mode for a while and see what happens?

Search between 166-169 and 170-174 MHz and see if they moved there. It is entirely possible they moved to P25 as they did in San Diego County around 2001 or so. Here in California the BP runs encryption a lot but you can still hear some good stuff in the clear especially on the Wide Area channels.

I've found that the Main Repeater on Telegraph Pass (163.625 MHz) has gone digital.

When I tried scanning without the CTCSS Codes, I get a "DG" Mode indication on that frequency and can hear the Dgital Voice.

I've also found several other DG Mode frequencies in the above frequency ranges, but they come through as "R2D2" Garble, so I'm assuming that they're encrypted.

I'll check more on my next trip to Yuma.

Down here there is frequent use of encryption, but not yet digital -- I'm still able to copy a substantial amount of useful traffic on my PRO-97 and old PRO-57 analog scanners. I hope it takes a while for the systems here to go digital -- but it sounds as if its inevitable.

I've no updated info, but possible that they're playing into part of the Justice IWN--lot's of new P25 stuff on old migrated frequencies in some areas are being integrated into IWN. See: http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=3509 It'll be a while until it's shaken out with all the funding rigamarole they're going through and lack of inter-agency cooperation. I've taken off all the federal CTCSS due to some migration to P25.

Be Safe Border Patrol

All of CBP Arizona is now switching over to P25 digital. Many of the analog repeaters have been swithced over to P25 encryption. Thank You BP for the 20 years of happy monitoring you allowed me. Be Safe Always. Thanks for protecting the homeland !
