paul seems like a great rep for uniden , but for uniden .... i have questions ?? im sure hes under the gun , and has brought a lot of our concerns to there attention , maybe what hes telling them what were disappointed with is falling on deaf ears .... just my own theory ... and the new GREs have to be at least a little concerned with them.

The whole thing seems abit odd lately. We buy their scanners, whether it's a br330t, bcd396t, bcd996t capable of more upgrades or quick fixes. They offer quick fixes at first and answers too your questions. Then BAMMM!!! They treat us like junkies looking for the fix. Or ignore us period. Come on! Where's the answers or support when you truly need it now undien.

lol, I highly doubt Uniden is that worried about GRE, GRE has it's own problems with the new scanners and some have them unusable for their needs just as some have the same issues with Uniden. Uniden though has the advantage though for the most part in both usability and features.
Just because they didn't come out with a firmware update this month, or on YOUR percieved schedule doesn't mean one isn't in the works. Some things need time to do and work out the kinks before putting it out there for you. Maybe if you all stop *****ing and whinning and harrassing them they would have more time to work on these things you feel need looked at. And then again, it may be that these percieved problems are just inproper operation and they are ignoring you until you figure it out or call support or go through the support website. My guess though is the first, they are working on things, and less harrassment will get things done faster.
I'm sure that Paul (Upman) also has a life outside work, like maybe a family and he can't be here waiting to answer your questions and *****es 24/7.
Chill out, just because there isn't a firmware update every week, 2 weeks or two months doesn't mean your being left out and should bail to GRE. I'd actually be surprised to see an update until after the hoildays, and if you can't wait .... thats your problem, not Unidens, some peole do have lives outside of work.

i just think it would be better costumer support for uniden to say .... we have been notified by numerous customers about concerns of problems with this radio , uniden is aware and is in the process of addressing these issues . at least some kind of acknowlegement and maybe we wouldnt be *****ing and whining so much . we would know that were not happy consumers . and yea there probably wont be a firmware upgrade till rebanding takes place . who knows . im just posting my thoughts on here as like anyone have my right to , im not starting crap here , i dont need to be heckled everytime i post my thoughts , its not right . no reason we all cant post our thoughts with out taking aim at the next guy who disagrees . and sometimes we post things and inadvertantly do this , as i reread a previous post , im guilty , and a frustrated uniden consumer.

I agree with V, chill. Uniden is working on solutions and should be out with upgrades soon. Haven't they been doing this since the latest two scanners came out? Don't see this discussion having anything to do with "bail to GRE". Why would someone purchase a 500 buck scanner if the scanner they have will do the same thing? Audio quality maybe, but give up muting enc...don't know.

I don't know what quick fix you are talking about. The first firmware update for the 996 didn't come out until it was around 8-9 months old. Seeing how were only another 8-9 months since the first and only update. And how many companies do you know that issue press releases stating that they are aware of issues people are having and that they are working on the problem? I'm fairly happy with the performance of my 996. Sure I'd like to see some updates but I'm willing to wait for them. They will eventually come. Paul has said within 1-2 months after systems start rebanding there will be a firmware update. Being as how most of this is expected after the first of the year I'm not looking for an update anytime before February or March at the earliest.

You need to remember that this is not an official Uniden support site. Therefore, they have no obligation to post anything here. Whatever they do here, they do as a courtesy, not because they have to.

So does GRE, but they made the information public through many channels. This is not GRE's official site, but they amde sure it was psoted on RR.

What I see here is from Uniden it's my fault, or the users fault, or I'm not close enough to a tower or I'm too close to a tower... and that's why my BCD396 motorboats.

Heck, there's a problem, and enough users in various areas of the Country have reported it.
Acknowledge it at least... they could and should, the message would still be why isn't this being fixed... but at least they are saying it's out there.

GRE did that and more when they had problems, and they fixed pronto, because if they got a bad reputation that would kill most of their sales.

Uniden doesn't worry about that here because there are too many willing to drink the "Kool-Aid." Me I'll consider a GRE next time.

Exactly!

Since there have been a few firmware upgrades and they have failed to fix the machine gunning and EDACS beeps, I have to assume it is not fixable. Maybe in their next scanner, but I don't intend to find out. I'm tired of paying $500 plus to be a beta tester.

And lets assume for a min that what you say is true. What makes you so sure that you won't be a beta tester for GRE?

WoW I learned something tonight. I never knew Upman (Paul) was affiliated with Uniden. I just knew he was very knowledgeable and he helped me out quite a bit. I was kind of bummed out when I quit seeing his posts. He seemed to know the 996 very well. Mine is also doing the motorboating but only on the DPS STATEWIDE APCO 25 channels. As a matter of fact I cannot even hear them anymore. Just Motorboat. Oh well.... I'm sure they will get it figured out. I can relate to you guys being upset about it and stuff after all these Uniden scanners were a pretty penny however don't get in a pinch about it. It does no justice for you and just adds more stress in your life. Overall I love my BCD996T. I will be sad when El Paso goes to ProVoice and I will be stuck listening to Motorboating and the intercity sheriffs offices. hehehhehehe...

Oh my god people, Upman hasn't been online for a few days and you are making it out to be a conspiracy or that he just had enough and left! Well with this kind of attitude (in the thread overall) maybe he will up and leave. He doesn't HAVE to come here and be abused by you, he tries to help you . Maybe as I said before he has a life outside of work, maybe too ther was a family emergency and he's out of town, give the man a break, hell, he may even be busy working on the "issues" your all crying about. Of course none of that matters to you because you only care about yourselves and screw Upman and everyone else, including Uniden.
Maybe, and I mean maybe if he was "missing" for three or four weeks or more I'd get worried that Uniden has bailed. And it wouldn't surprise me if they read this thread and do bail, but he hasn't been gone that long.
I also like how many of you think coming up with a firmware update is so simple, there again, changing the programing in one area may affect other things, and everything has to be tested over and over to make sure other things are not affected that are not supposed to be. What you think should take a day or two may take a month or two........
Anyway, with all of you bashing Uniden I wouldn't be surprised to see Upman say screw it and leave and let you sit and stew a while, or permanetly. If you think the GRE's are so great, by all means, go buy one, but you will notice they have "issues" as well, and are the perfect scanner you think they should be. They are already showing up for sale because someone doesn't like something they do or don't do.

Last and not least, there is always Unidens support site, since you can't get your answers and "fixes" as quick as you think you should by all means, flood their support site with cries for help.... maybe they will hear you, or maybe they won't.

Oh well, back to scanning :)

Considering that he was not hired by Uniden to post on here. I guess you think it's said to say that he may be on vacation considering it is the holidays and all.
How dare him have a job and of above all things a private life, outside of Radio Reference.
Not all live, eat, and breathe scanning. It's a hobby but not life support as some think.

I commend Uniden for allowing him to post at all.

Most companies do not allow posing, and anything that is posted has to be approved, much like a press release.
