• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello all...I hope someone can chime in and help me here! I am getting back into radios after a long hiatus, and have an opportunity to get one of three different radios that have been offered to me.
1) Magnum 357DX - used and in great condition $200
2) Magnum 257 - New in Box $190
3) Magnum Export S9 Like new $185

I have to get as much radio for the money as possible, and intend on getting the proper licensing for the non-cb freqs.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance all!

I dont have any personal experience with theese radios but imho I would go for the S9 I have been wanting one of these for along time I really like the looks/features of them alot and know that they are a very good radio and that is a great price for it as well. Like I said no hands on with them (yet) just my personal pref and thoughts on it. Good Luck

I have a S-9 in my work truck, it's a great radio. They do have lots of bells and whistles on them and plenty of channels, but I dare not go on a lot of them! The audio is great and it seems to be a tuff radio to be strapped on the dash of a semi and take the abuse it gets. The only problem is the digital freq. read out is messed up so I've just turned it off. Most of the time I keep the power turned all the way down, you really don't need it with the loud modulation swing this radio has. Just my two cents worth.

None of the above if you plan on getting licensed.

I have a Magnum 257 used in excellent shape. The radio, microphone and power cord only. If you would like to buy it I would sell it for $125.00. It already has the mod to do CB band done to it. Send me a PM if you're interested or anyone else for that matter.
