Hello everyone

I just recently got back into radios (actually got my technician ham license) and I'm looking to get a scanner again... I used to own the Pro-164 until I sold it few years ago.... With it, I was able to pickup pretty much any police freqs in my area. This included Palm Beach Sheriff, and all city police around me that was trunked. I also picked up Broward Sheriff. Now, I'm looking on the wiki page here and it says 164 is 'analog' Well how did I pick up the digital channels on P25 then?

so What I wanted to know was, can I pick up the Palm Beach County Trunk system (and Broward County) with the BCT15XT? It will be going in my car...

Here is the reference url for it

Palm Beach County Trunking System, Palm Beach, Florida - Scanner Frequencies

Thanks guys!

I'm still doing my research as I post this so...

Now, I always thought that they were on a P-25 Digital Trunking system, and I still think I'm correct on this, and from what it seems the BCT15X isn't digital trunking. It's analog trunking...

You will be able to trunk track this system since it is a Motorola type II with the BCT15X. However any talk groups that are digital voice you can not use the BCT15X to decode the voice and listen to them, but any analog voice talk groups you can listen to them.
You will need a BCD996T, BCD396T, BCD996XT, BCD396XT, Pro-197, PRO-106, PSR-500, PSR-600, Pro-96 or PRO-2096 to listen to digital voice talk groups on this system.

I just don't understand then... it shows Boca Raton PD on there as 'D' (digital) yet 2 years ago when I had the 164 repeater, I was able to listen to them! along with PBSO and BSO...

I'm almost positive they've always been on P-25 because I worked for FAU PD (uses Boca Raton PD's radios/channels) in 2002 and they were P-25 afaik

The Pro-164 isn't digital is it? so how did I listen to Boca Raton dispatch couple years ago?

I guess they changed from Analog to Digital within the 2 years and I'm not aware of it...

As he said... you will not be able to decode the digital transmissions, but you will be able to hear anything done in analog on those talkgroups.

ok, I think I remember, it was because I owned the Pro-96, not the Pro 164 I think...

I know boca has always been on digital because when I worked, I remember talking on the radio and everything sounded digital. That's what it was :D
