OK here is the deal I have a Pro 97 scanner, I am using Win 97software (well trying too use it to program it. I plug the USB cable in my computer, and the 3.5 into its respective jack on the scanner. If I hit download from scanner in Win 97 I get nothing, so any recommendations.

OK this is getting pretty frustrating. I have been posting threads here and they don't make it anywhere on the board. I'm wondering whats wrong with this picture.

I would really like to know?

The bigest issue users have is with the "COM" port. Open up the device manager on the computer and find which com port was assigned to the USB cable and set the COM port in Win97 to thwe same value.

Agreed on the COM port. I have to futz with mine often and set it to the proper port. Also ensure you're using the extender plug on the cable.

. . . Also ensure you're using the extender plug on the cable.

While use of the "extender" may have no negative effects with the PRO-97/Win97 combination, an awareness of the following from Don Starr's Cable Page may be useful:

The RadioShack version (and possibly the GRE version) comes with an "adapter" - a stereo-to-mono adapter approximately 4 inches long. That adapter is not required for any GRE-made scanner, and it must not be used with the PSR-500 family scanners.

The Pro97 uses a mono type plug, not the stereo type plug. The plug must be fully inserted into the radio. And of course make sure you are using the correct com port.

The Win97 will upload to and download from the Pro-97 scanner with either the mono or stereo plug at the end of the 200-0047 cable.
