The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

It won't show up as a com port. TRBO and Apex radios program through USB via 802.x protocols. The radios (mobiles answer portables) show up as network devices (even Linux recognizes them as such).

As stated, there is no chip in the programming cables. I want to say Windows 10 isn't supported supported by Motorola for TRBO CPS but I'm still running 12.1 myself. This is a common problem seen when people upgrade to 10...some have gotten it to work by reinstalling CPS.

Ok so what that other person told me about that prolific driver, that won't do anything so even though I got it installed again my best bet is to uninstall it and try re-installing it again

That would be the best bet. There was a post about the same issue a month or so ago, turned into a frustrated Windows 10 rant. Don't know if it was ever actually resolved.

Ok will try that when I get time and see if that hopefully helps.

And a friend of mine has 2 computers running on Windows 10 and he told me the one works to do the programming and the other one is having the same issue as me.

So hopefully this fixes the problem.

No I am not getting anymore computers. That is out of the question.

I already have a dedicated laptop for programming other radios, it is using Windows XP and this MotoTrbo 12.1 version doesn't run on XP if it did I would of put it on there but since it doesn't, I have no choice. So I will get it working again one way or another with Windows 10.

I will just do like the other guy said about that driver and hopefully that fixes my issue and I will be good to go again

In the meantime, go to the device manager and update your USB device drivers. You select the radio and then right click with your mouse awhile the radio is on and connected to your computer. Does a search for the driver then installs and tests for health.

Ditto with the hub driver. You will see a reassembly of the tree and you will see your virtual comports appear on the screen.

Good ruck.

So Cali
MotoTrbo Radio Driver, that should be the one. Maybe you need the MotoTrbo Radio Driver
one for Win 10.

There are absolutely no prolific drivers required or needed. I just installed 12.1 on a Win10 machine 2 days ago with zero problems. When the radio is first plugged in it comes up as unknown device, then gets recognized as a MotoTRBO radio and that's it, done and done. And the radio will show up under Network Adapters in Device Manager, not Ports.

Perhaps try this: With a radio connected go to Device Manager/Network Adapters and right click on MotoTRBO radio and select uninstall. When it's done, unplug the radio and reboot. Once you've rebooted reconnect the radio and let it install the driver again. If this doesn't work then the CPS will need to be reinstalled. Also, it's not the best idea to advertise the fact that you are pirating the CPS in an open forum.

The problem with Win10 is that the driver files don't always get installed.. (I have no idea why).

Check the directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Motorola

You should see two folders:

MOTOTRBO CPS
MOTOTRBO Drivers

If the Drivers folder is missing, that's your problem.

I purchased a new computer with Win10 installed. (I had been using a Win7 computer). When I installed CPS on the new computer, the drivers were not installed. Because of that, my XPR6550 was not recognized.

I copied the MOTOTRBO Drivers folder and its contents from my old computer over to the new one. It worked after that.

Sounds like that is the issue. I've had no problem with CPS 10 or 11 on Windows 10.

Ok when I go to Device Manager/Network Adapters and right click on the MotoTrbo Radio and select uninstall I get this box that comes up. Do I check off: Delete the driver software for this device or keep it unchecked. Then after that restart my computer then open up the MotoTrbo software and try it to see if this does the trick.

Just seeing if I will be doing it right before I do it.

Let me know.

Thanks

Ok just an update. Tonight I got a friend of mine to try and help me with this issue, he installed the MotoTrbo Driver File and then tried that and still no luck then we tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling it and still nothing. He just installed the MotoTrbo Driver folder on another friend of mine on his computer he was having the same issue with and it worked for him.

So I dunno I am out of ideas after getting that friend of mine to try what other people on here said to do and it's still saying that same error code when I try to read or write to it.

So just wondering if anyone on here would have anymore ideas, as to why it still is not working for me.

Would like to get this to read and write to the radio again.

Let me know.

Thanks

I had a similiar issue regarding the prolific drivers. Even authentic chips have issues. It's all in the proper driver. Even if it says xp or Vista etc sometimes they do not work and it results in finding a driver that actually works. I will pm a site to you to see if one of these drivers for prolific work. It worked for me. Prolific has a official site where you can use a chip checked to see if it's legit or not on there site. For others if you go to Miklor dot Com and search for usb cable and drivers it'll show the prolific variety of drivers. I had to try a few before it took. Basically I had to back date the driver since the newer version windows updated to did not work. Oddly the xp driver at Miklor worked for a couple machines not running xp so it was a Bah moment but works and runs fine.

Ok and the radios I am using if it means anything is a XPR 4550 and a XPR 6350 Portable. The cable I am using for my XPR 4550

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/151223700844

So I dunno if this will tell u anything and if the prolific driver(s) I might still need.

Let me know

I can't say this enough. MotoTRBO cables do NOT use Prolific chips and do NOT need Prolific drivers.

The rear port of a 4550 can be programmed with a straight 4 wire USB cable. It's a little trickier with portables as those cables use a 1-Wire device to confirm its a valid Motorola Impres device.

Ok I dunno why that person says that then, that is what I need when I don't need that.

So otherwise I am lost here it still doesn't work after I did and tried those things I mentioned in my other post from earlier today.

So if anyone has any other suggestions or any reasons why it still is not working for me let me know.

Thanks

All the necessary drivers are installed when you install CPS. They are found in C:\\Program Files(x86)\Motorola\MOTOTURBO Drivers. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, sometimes they don't get installed under Windows 10. If that folder isn't there, then that is your problem.

Also, the radio is recognized as a network device, not a pseudo serial device (COM port). It won't show up in 'Device Manager' under Ports (COM & LPT) the way most programmable radios do. You should see it under 'Network adapters" showing as a MOTOTRBO Radio

Yes a friend of mine who is a computer guy just reinstalled the MotoTrbo Drivers folder and set it up, it is on my main screen on my computer as a zip folder and then then the unzipped folder.

Yah I see it there under network device each time I plug the cable in from my 4550 and it says everything is working properly.

So I dunno why it is still not allowing me to read or write to it and the same thing for my other cable that I use for my 6350 portable.

I dunno if there is something else I am missing or it has to do with my windows 10.

A friend of mine had the same issue with one of his computers on windows 10 and that computer guy friend of his did the same thing jusy reinstalled the MotoTrbo Drivers folder and then it worked just fine.
But still not for me.

Hope it's not a big issue here I am having
