Wireless N is an option, so is setting up a repeater called wireless bridging. Some router's support this feature, otherwise DD-WRT will do this also.

Your setting may have to be adjusted or the router should be moved to a higher location. What are the settings?

Can can try to build one of these and aim toward the room. Ez-12

You could also buy a USB cable and plug in the USB wifi connector to the end and elevate the position.

If your router supports DD-WRT, then you could crank up the wattage. Supported Devices - DD-WRT Wiki

I would have to agree with just about all the posts. Try different things until you get the results you are looking for. Personally I would attempt the cheaper options first and then try working adding or buying new. I don't like spending money if I don't have to.

Myself I may try seeing if I can boost the router's power output, then try the EZ-12 suggestion with both the router & USB wireless adapter. I would use an USB cable and set up a stand with tin foil around it.

If all that fails then I would look into purchasing another router to set up a wireless bridge. As for the other two options and depending on what your wireless adapter(s) is/are, you may be looking at buying all new equipment.

That is my 2 cents.

First start simple, where is the wireless usb adapter located, can you move it around the room for better signal? You can buy a USB extension cable pretty cheap to get some better reach, if you have it plugged into the back of the computer try moving it higher up, on a shelf, etc.

Add a better antenna to the adapter, depending on the type you have, some have a removable antenna and a higher gain antenna might be enough of a change to get you working again.

as far as wireless goes, it's best to have your router in a central and high location. High gain antennas may also help, as well as switching wireless channels. (default may be 6, you can try channel 1 or 11) to avoid interference with other wifi signals.

if that doesn't work for you and you must stay with wireless, you can upgrade to Wireless N or even try Powerline networking by Netgear.
