My ws1065 has normal volume and then volume has to be turned almost full on to hear. (normal volume level is squelch line and volume line are the same. When it goes weak, squelch is the same but volume is almost full on)
Has anyone run into this problem?

Intermittent volume problems could be caused by a dirty headphone or external speaker jack. Try plugging in an earpiece or headphones and see if the volume is OK.

Pretty sure it's an internal problem because it makes no difference whether I'm using internal speaker or external. When the volume goes low, a tap on the radio will most times bring the volume back to normal. Thanks for the reply

Try an earpiece or headphones in the headphone jack. A dirty headphone jack can mute both the internal speaker and external speaker jacks.

Thanks, but as I mentioned above it's the same for both headphone jacks and internal speaker. I use an amplified speaker which plugs into either headphone jack, all act the same. Again, a tap on the radio will most times make volume go back to normal.

It's time to remove the cover and check it out. Check cables going to the volume control and headphone jack. It could also be a bad solder connection on the circuit board. Lightly tapping the circuit board with an insulated object may allow you to isolate a problem to the area where it is most sensitive.

Yes I have had a similar problem and still experience it periodically, with or without an external speaker connected to either audio ports. I have done all the above as suggested. Presently when it happens, I press the WX button and start hearing the local NOAA broadcast. Afterwards, everything is back to normal.

Been there, done that. Can't make the problem happen by tapping, but when it is happening many times tapping will make it work. Problem is that one tap anywhere on the board many times will make it work, after that there is no chance of isolating it to one component or area on the board.

Take a close look at all of the solder connectons on the circuit board. You may see one where a component lead is not securely soldered to the board.
