got this scanner got premium script for radio reference and saw only a few software apps for this scanner ws1040 knowing i will have to pay for software and never have done before how much of a hassle is it to do and what is the easiest to install? thanks for any advice.

There are three software programs that can be used to program your WS1040. In addition to Butel's ARC500, there is also PSREdit500 & Win500. More information is in the Wiki:

You can try each of the types of software for free for a limited amount of time. Usually 30 days. Pick out the one you like best. Win 500 is no longer being supported by the author. ARC and PSR are still supported by the authors.

fyi if downloading to scanner and it is scanning and getting hits it will not download must first turn off all banks and then hit start
