• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So i have an apx 6000xe. The top display rotates from zone to channel. Ive googled how to stop that, saw one saying that removing the zone lettering would hwlp is text was under x amount. It now just leaves the zone blank then shows channel. I could have swore i saw something here that said how to stop the rotsting text. Any help from anyone? Just need channel to display.

An interesting consequence of setting top zone text size to 0 is that it caused all of my top display zone text fields under zone channel assignments to show as invalid. I had to clear all of them out in addition to changing the top zone text size setting. Not sure if that is normal, or if it was just a quirk with my config. Would've liked to have been able to leave those in so reverting the change would've been as easy as setting the top zone text size back to a non-zero value, if I ever decide I want them back.

Expected behavior. If you set the zone text to 0, you must clear out the zone names, otherwise you're left with invalid fields.

Related: is there any way to adjust the size of the radio's alias on the top display? I didn't see one, so I suspect not, but wanted to confirm. I understand there is no way to get rid of it entirely without turning radio alias off. The problem is our aliases are long enough that they scroll at the default size, so you spend 2/3 of the time looking at your own alias, and only 1/3 looking at the name of the selected channel. You get:

1: XYZ FD 123...
2: ...456
3: Channel 1

It does seem like the alias goes away on its own after a minute, and you just get the channel, though? If the size can't be changed, is there a way to adjust that duration?
