• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have my XG-100P set up to operate on a conventional P-25 repeater in the 70 cm ham band. A NAC of $293 is used for both TX and RX. This repeater supports multiple digital modes. If someone is using the repeater in any mode other than P-25, I can still hear digital noise despite the NAC codes. Is there a setting somewhere that deals with this, or is this just the way it works?

You should be able to set the channel mode to Mon, norm, or sel. The setting is next to the NAC… I’m not looking at RPM, so my terminology may be skewed. When set to sel, the radio should only open squelch if the NAC is recognized and the mode is P25. Setting to sel will also allow iCall to function.

Select between "NORM" and "SEL" through "MON".

  • NORM – When this option is selected, Normal Squelch enables the receiver to unmute on any P25 voice signal which has the correct Network Access Code (NAC). Voice messages from co-channel users which are using different access codes will be muted.

  • SEL – When this option is selected, Selective Squelch mutes all P25 voice traffic except the voice traffic that is explicitly addressed to the unit. Messages which contain the talkgroup or Unit ID of the receiver and the correct Network Access Code (NAC) will be received.

  • MON – When this option is selected, Monitor enables the receiver to unmute on any recognizable P25 voice signal. Selective muting based on Network Access Code (NAC), Talkgroup ID (TGID), or Unit ID is not performed.

MIne was set to "NORM", but it was still letting other stuff through. Based on the description above, it would seem that "SEL" would not allow any traffic except what was specifically directed at me.

Thanks @KevinC !

@W4KRR as long as everyone is using a single TG, it will work. It does not require a unit id to be part of a call to open squelch. Basically, you want to be able to use sel to take full advantage of the P25 feature set. I also have issues with squelch opening “incorrectly” in norm and it opens for everything in mon. You can also set a non-standard privacy tone for RX, which will block unwanted analog traffic, even when set to lesser squelch modes.

Using sel does allow icalls to work, which is pretty sweet!
